Cher recently told Vanity Fair magazine that having a transgendered child can cause some complications, not the least of which is the need to remember what to call said child. Â She admitted during the interview that she doesn’t always remember to call Chaz (formerly Chastity) “him,” and as if to prove the point, she slipped up during the interview and referred to Chaz as a girl.
I know people are going to jump all over her for that, but I think it’s good that she’s showing these mistakes in public. Â Coming out as transgendered is not just an adjustment for the person transitioning – it’s a huge change for everyone who knows that person. Â I think Cher is doing her best to try to support Chaz, and I think she can be forgiven for using an incorrect pronoun here and there.
