Chaz Bono Engaged

Chaz Bono and girlfriend Jennifer Elia are officially engaged! The couple has been planning on getting married for a while now but Chaz finally made it official by giving Jennifer a ring. The proposal was shown last night in a one-hour special called “Being Chaz,” a follow-up to “Becoming Chaz” (the Emmy-nominated documentary that followed Chaz’s transgender process).

The pair has actually been engaged for the past two years but wanted to put off getting married until Chaz finished his transgender process. Not to mention his six-week run on Dancing With the Stars which no doubt put increased stress and time constraints on the couple.

Jennifer, who identifies as bisexual, told CNN’s Piers Morgan that she finds her fiance more attractive as a man.

Chaz Bono to make film about gender reassignment

He’s already had to deal with a lifetime of being in the wrong body, as well as the ordeal of coming out to his mother and then to the public, but Chaz Bono is taking one more brave leap forward and making a documentary film about his female-to-male gender reassignment.  The point of the film is to draw attention to the issue of transsexuality, and to help people better understand and accept what transitioning people go through.

The film has been chosen to premiere at the Sundance Festival, so it’s very likely to be worth a watch.  I’m sure there will be some bashing in there somewhere, as it always is, but hopefully the message will get through loud and clear anyway.

Call Me Chaz! Chastity Bono Now Legally a Man

Chastity Bono, the former daughter of Cher and Sonny Bono is now officially their son, Chaz Bono. A year after undergoing a sex change, Chaz Bono is now legally a man. Chaz Bono previously came out as a lesbian back when she was still Chastity Bono, but later realized she was really gay, per se – she was actually just in the wrong body. Bono began transitioning from female to male in 2008.

Chaz Bono was finally granted a legal gender and name change on Thursday by a California judge. Bono underwent “irreversible surgery” last September to alter his “sex characteristics from female to male,” according to court documents filed in March. The former Chastity Sun Bono is now officially Chaz Salvatore Bono and will be issued a new birth certificate reflecting his name and gender changes.

“It’s hard for me to articulate how this feels—when you’ve lived your whole life in a body and having everybody relate to you as something you don’t feel,” Bono told People magazine in December of his decision to change his sex. “When that finally gets righted, it’s just amazing. I finally get to live my life the way I’ve always wanted to.”

“I feel so much more comfortable than I’ve ever been,” Bono said. “I’ve felt male as far back as I can remember. Life is short and life is precious. This is who I am. I need to finally be who I am.”

“It is Chaz’s hope that [his] choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue, just as [his] coming out did,” Bono’s publicist said in a press statement.
