Christian Bale Bailing On Batman After Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises will the last Batman film for Christian Bale, the actor announced in a recent interview. Christian Bale has played Batman on the big screen in three movies, more than any other actor who has stepped into the role. George Clooney and Val Kilmer both played the Batman in one film, while Michael Keaton played the the crime-fighter in two.

Speaking to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Oscar-winning actor Christian Bale said that while playing Batman was “enjoyable,” he is done with the role after The Dark Knight Rises.

“I wrapped a few days ago so that will be the last time I’m taking that cowl [Batman hood] off,” he said. “I believe that the whole production wrapped yesterday, so it’s all done. Everything’s finished. It’s me and Chris – that will be the end of that Batman era.”

While Christian Bale may be bailing on Batman, his fans will have plenty more chances to eyeball him on the screen soon. Bale will be up next in Zhang Yuimou‘s film drama The Flowers of War and co-starring in two films with Cate Blanchett from director Terrence Malick.

The Dark Knight Rises, starring Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anne Hathaway, is due out in the summer.
