“Having witnessed firsthand the global challenges and opportunities that America faces every day, I’m also eager to open a window on the world and cut through those classified issues that we all confront,” Amanpour said in opening the show on Sunday.

One of the leading topics on Sunday’s show was the recent release of 92,000 documents about the war in Afghanistan by the whistleblower website Robert Gates told Amanpour he was “mortified” by Wikileaks‘ actions. “I believe that this information puts those in Afghanistan who have helped us at risk,” Gates said.’s Mike Allen talks to Christiane Amanpour about WikiLeaks.

Christiane Amanpour will have a tough job on This Week competing against NBC’s Meet the Press, Fox News Sunday and CBS’ Face the Nation. The show has fallen in ratings since Stephanopoulos left to host ABC’s Good Morning America.
