According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Corey Haim collapsed shortly after midnight Wednesday morning in the bedroom of his mother’s apartment in Hollywood. Haim had reportedly been battling flu-like symptoms for several days before he died.

Haim reportedly collapsed in front of his mother, who called 911 immediately. Haim was still alive when paramedics arrived but very weak. Haim was rushed to St. Joseph’s hospital in Burbank, CA, but could not be saved. The 38-year-old actor was pronounced dead around 2:15 AM.

According to the LAPD, several prescription drug bottles were found in the apartment where Haim collapsed. No illegal substances, however, were reportedly found at the scene. Authorities allegedly currently believe it is likely Haim died of an accidental drug overdose but an official cause of death will not be determined until after an autopsy is performed and toxicology tests completed.

The LAPD has reportedly concluded their investigation into Corey Haim’s death and the case is now in the hands of the Los Angeles Coroner’s Department.

Corey Haim reportedly collapsed in front of his mother early Wednesday morning at her home in North Hollywood. Haim was rushed to the Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center by ambulance, but medical personnel were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead around 3:40 AM, according to the LAPD.

Canadian-born actor Corey Haim was best known for his roles in the late 80’s films The Lost Boys, License to Drive, Lucas and Dream a Little Dream. Although Haim appeared in several dozen more films over the last two decades, he never quite reclaimed the level of fame he had as a teenager and young adult.

Haim was open about his struggle with drug addiction, saying that at one point he was taking about 85 pills a day. In 2004, Haim declared that he had finally kicked his drug habit, telling The Sun newspaper that he was “clean, sober, humble and happy.”

In 2007, Haim and former film co-star Corey Feldman filmed a reality show together for A&E titled The Two Coreys. The show was cancelled after the second season. Feldman said he would not have further contact with Haim again until he “gets the help he truly needs” to deal with his drug problems. “For now we must sever ties as I have been taught this is the only way to truly take a final stand for someone’s recovery,” Haim posted on his blog at the time.

An official autopsy will be held to determine the official cause of Haim’s death, but it is being reported that he died of an accidental drug overdose. We’re incredibly sad to hear of Haim’s passing, especially as it appears to be yet another drug-related death of a young Hollywood star. Will the epidemic ever end?
