Corey Haim Funeral Not Being Paid for by Toronto

The city of Toronto is not picking up the tab for the funeral of former child star Corey Haim. Despite a claim by Haim’s mother, Judy Haim, the city denies they are helping pay for the actor’s funeral.

“The City of Toronto confirms no involvement in funeral costs for Mr. Haim,” Toronto communications director Kevin Sack said in a press statement on Monday. “The City of Toronto has never received an application for assistance with the funeral costs for Mr. Haim.”

Judy Haim told Access Hollywood that the city of Toronto would be paying for her son’s funeral. We’re not sure where she got that information, but apparently city officials aren’t aware they are supposed to be footing the bill. The confusion may come over a city program that assists with funeral costs for any resident whose estate cannot pay for a basic burial service. Haim was allegedly virtually broke when he died last week.

Celebrity memorabilia site Startifacts.com has reportedly offered up $20,000 to help with expenses for the funeral. Fans of Corey Haim have also been working to raise funds to help with costs and a funeral chapel in Toronto is reportedly helping as well.

Meanwhile, Corey Haim’s longtime friend and former co-star Corey Feldman will not be making the trip to Toronto for the actor’s funeral. “Understanding the recent media attention and to be respectful of the family’s wishes I have decided not to attend,” Feldman said in a blog post. “Instead I will remain in Los Angeles quietly mourning and planning his memorial.”

Although it has been widely speculated that Corey Haim died of an apparent drug overdose, an official cause of death is still pending toxicology reports from the Los Angeles Coroner’s Department.
