Actor Corey Haim died from complications of pneumonia and an enlarged heart, the Los Angeles County coroner announced in a press statement on Tuesday. While traces of eight prescription and over-the-counter medications were found in Haim’s system, none are believed to have contributed to his death.
The Corey Haim autopsy report officially lists the former child star’s cause of death as natural causes from “community-acquired pneumonia.” Haim died on March 10 after collapsing in his mother’s apartment. He had reportedly been ill with flu-like symptoms in the days before his death.
Haim struggled with drug and alcohol addiction much of his life and allegedly obtained over 500 prescription pills through “doctor shopping” in the two months before his death. California Attorney General Jerry Brown said in April that Haim had visited multiple doctors to acquire prescriptions for Valium, Xanax, Vicodin, Oxycontin and other medications.
Trace amounts of eight prescription and over-the-counter drugs, including tranquilizers, marijuana and cold medications were found in Haim’s body. The coroner’s office, however, says none of the drugs were “at a level that would have contributed to his death.”
In addition to the damage caused to Haim’s respiratory system from the pneumonia, the actor also had an enlarged heart, partially blocked coronary arteries and an enlarged liver.
Actor Corey Haim acquired over 550 prescription pills in the months before his death, California Attorney General Jerry Brown said in a press statement Tuesday. Haim died on March 10 after collapsing at his mother’s apartment. No official cause of death has yet been determined, but drugs are suspected to have been involved in Haim’s death.
Corey Haim reported shopped around with various doctors to obtain over 550 prescription pills in the two months before his death, according to Brown. The medications acquired by Haim included Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Soma. Haim appeared to have used up to 20 doctors, a half dozen pharmacies and at least one alias to acquire pills over the last year. Four prescription bottles for Haim were found in the apartment where he collapsed.
Investigators tracked down Corey Haim’s pill acquisition using a voluntary database that monitors prescriptions. Haim may have also obtained at least one illegal prescription for Oxycontin linked to a drug ring using stolen identities and prescription pads.
An autopsy on Haim’s body revealed he was suffering from pneumonia and an enlarged heart at the time of his death. Toxicology test results are expected later this month.
We just hope the information being discovered in connection to Haim’s death will shine a bright light on what seems to be a growing plague of prescription drug abuse in Hollywood and beyond.
The city of Toronto is not picking up the tab for the funeral of former child star Corey Haim. Despite a claim by Haim’s mother, Judy Haim, the city denies they are helping pay for the actor’s funeral.
“The City of Toronto confirms no involvement in funeral costs for Mr. Haim,” Toronto communications director Kevin Sack said in a press statement on Monday. “The City of Toronto has never received an application for assistance with the funeral costs for Mr. Haim.”
Judy Haim told Access Hollywood that the city of Toronto would be paying for her son’s funeral. We’re not sure where she got that information, but apparently city officials aren’t aware they are supposed to be footing the bill. The confusion may come over a city program that assists with funeral costs for any resident whose estate cannot pay for a basic burial service. Haim was allegedly virtually broke when he died last week.
Celebrity memorabilia site Startifacts.com has reportedly offered up $20,000 to help with expenses for the funeral. Fans of Corey Haim have also been working to raise funds to help with costs and a funeral chapel in Toronto is reportedly helping as well.
Meanwhile, Corey Haim’s longtime friend and former co-star Corey Feldman will not be making the trip to Toronto for the actor’s funeral. “Understanding the recent media attention and to be respectful of the family’s wishes I have decided not to attend,” Feldman said in a blog post. “Instead I will remain in Los Angeles quietly mourning and planning his memorial.”
Although it has been widely speculated that Corey Haim died of an apparent drug overdose, an official cause of death is still pending toxicology reports from the Los Angeles Coroner’s Department.
Former teen heartthrob actor Corey Haim died early Wednesday morning from an apparent drug overdose. Now more details are emerging of the last hours before Haim’s tragic death.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Corey Haim collapsed shortly after midnight Wednesday morning in the bedroom of his mother’s apartment in Hollywood. Haim had reportedly been battling flu-like symptoms for several days before he died.
Haim reportedly collapsed in front of his mother, who called 911 immediately. Haim was still alive when paramedics arrived but very weak. Haim was rushed to St. Joseph’s hospital in Burbank, CA, but could not be saved. The 38-year-old actor was pronounced dead around 2:15 AM.
According to the LAPD, several prescription drug bottles were found in the apartment where Haim collapsed. No illegal substances, however, were reportedly found at the scene. Authorities allegedly currently believe it is likely Haim died of an accidental drug overdose but an official cause of death will not be determined until after an autopsy is performed and toxicology tests completed.

Lost Boys star Corey Haim died Wednesday morning at a Los Angeles hospital at the age of 38. Haim reportedly died of an apparent drug overdose. The former teen heartthrob has long struggled with drug addiction and had allegedly sought treatment in rehab over a dozen times.
Corey Haim reportedly collapsed in front of his mother early Wednesday morning at her home in North Hollywood. Haim was rushed to the Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center by ambulance, but medical personnel were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead around 3:40 AM, according to the LAPD.
Canadian-born actor Corey Haim was best known for his roles in the late 80’s films The Lost Boys, License to Drive, Lucas and Dream a Little Dream. Although Haim appeared in several dozen more films over the last two decades, he never quite reclaimed the level of fame he had as a teenager and young adult.
Haim was open about his struggle with drug addiction, saying that at one point he was taking about 85 pills a day. In 2004, Haim declared that he had finally kicked his drug habit, telling The Sun newspaper that he was “clean, sober, humble and happy.”
In 2007, Haim and former film co-star Corey Feldman filmed a reality show together for A&E titled The Two Coreys. The show was cancelled after the second season. Feldman said he would not have further contact with Haim again until he “gets the help he truly needs” to deal with his drug problems. “For now we must sever ties as I have been taught this is the only way to truly take a final stand for someone’s recovery,” Haim posted on his blog at the time.
An official autopsy will be held to determine the official cause of Haim’s death, but it is being reported that he died of an accidental drug overdose. We’re incredibly sad to hear of Haim’s passing, especially as it appears to be yet another drug-related death of a young Hollywood star. Will the epidemic ever end?
Susannah Feldman has slapped former child star husband Corey Feldman with divorce papers, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the demise of their marriage. To add insult to injury, Susannah is asking for full custody of the couple’s 5-year-old son, Zen.
Susannah Feldman (maiden name Susie Sprague) and Corey Feldman met in a nightclub in 2002 and got hitched nine months later on the set of The Surreal Life. In court papers filed last week, Susie Feldman petitioned for a divorce, as well as full custody of her son with Corey Feldman – although she said she does want her estranged husband to have visitation rights.
Corey Feldman, best known for films such as The Goonies and The Lost Boys, starred with his wife and drug-addicted friend Corey Haim in the A&E reality series The Two Coreys. Feldman and Haim infamously broke off their lifelong friendship in 2008, documented on The Two Coreys. Feldman has expressed the wish to never have any contact with Haim again.
Losing your best friend and your wife in the space of a year. That just hurts man. At least Corey can console himself with his amazing film and TV career. Oh… yeah. Nevermind.
TGIF!!! Who’s dancin’ in the booth today for Friday’s Fifteen Minutes? Looks like the guys have it again this week! FFM gives z-listers a little press while they try to go for 20. This week’s featured “Z” is none other than Corey Haim! Corey’s pic is from last year when he declared himself BACK! Guess what…he ain’t back.
Corey is 36, and was teen heartthrob for about a year back in the ’80s. His other claim to fame is for being one effed up BAD druggie! He’s been trying to get back into Hollywood’s good graces oh, like, forever- and he’s at it again today! Corey’s learned a little from his past comeback attempts, so he’s letting us know that Victoria Beckham got a little freaky when they dated. Briefly. In 1995.
“I did date Victoria Beckham. When she kisses she does this funny thing. She does this gnaw thing. She liked to gnaw on my lip.”
Corey recalled the first time he met Posh and the other Spices at a London recording studio.
Five girls in these crazy outfits piled out of a car. They were like punk chicks, Sid Vicious chicks. They walked into the studio and I met Vic. Sniper eyes. It was my obligation as a man to hang out with her.
Sid Vicious chicks? SNIPER EYES? File those, intern Seacrest. Corey says they never officially split up. Posh has previously claimed the pair split after having a big ole fight because Corey was jealous of her crush on a boyband. Yeah, a whole band. Corey nonetheless elaborates to Bravo TV:
We never really split up. My brain wasn’t really functioning at the time. So she said she drove to my Hilton Hotel in Kensington and threw my clothes all over the road? Dude, I stayed at the Marriott not the Hilton! If that happened it doesn’t sound right. I was whispering in her ear and we were acting like soulmates. I wouldn’t expect a girl I was with to say she liked some other guys and then kick me out of her car. But if she said it I guess it must be real. She has never lied to me. I’m not happy to hear she cheated on me with some guy.
Dude, your brain STILL isn’t functioning right. You were staying at the Super 8. Sniper Eyes is gonna kick your door in tonight and give you a tracheotomy with her stilletto. And Corey? Vicki lied to you, bud. A bunch.
