Reigning American Idol David Cook fought through last year’s competition while living through his brother Adam’s struggle with brain cancer. David would never have tried out without Adam’s prodding…they both auditioned and David ended up taking the whole contest.
Sadly, after battling cancer for more than a decade, Adam died on Saturday. David announced the news Sunday morning before the 12th annual Race for Hope 5K in Washington, D.C.
“I actually lost my brother yesterday to a brain tumor and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else right now,” Cook, 26, told the crowd at the benefit for brain cancer research.”
Cook was both serving as grand marshal and running with a team that raised $98,000. Our condolences and prayers go out for the Cook family.
Two of Snarkista’s fave American Idols, David Cook and Carrie Underwood hooked up a few weeks ago for a duet, doing the Fleetwood Mac classic “Go Your Own Way.” Classy Carrie illustrates why “Bikini Girl” got the ax early this season. Enjoy!!
Youth was the word at last night’s American Music Awards, where 19 year-old Chris Brown took home three of the pointy prizes, including the top award: Artist Of The Year. The AMA’s also provided no less than 19 live performances (none from Chris) but most of them didn’t suck!
Christina Aguilera kicked off the show with a medley highlighting her greatest hits, which are not coincidently on her new “Greatest Hits” album. The fact that Christina has a “Greatest Hits” album makes Snarkista feel pretty dang old.
Miley Cyrus tore up “Fly On The Wall” ,with some freaky space-bots, on her 16th Birthday.
Sarah McLaughlin was joined by Pink, who put some grit into a nice duet on “Angel”
The amazing Annie Lennox won the Award Of Merit, and gave a fab performance of “Why”:
Taylor Swift was introduced by David Cook (heart!) and sang “White Horse”:
Beyonce shook her booty on “Single Ladies”- she’s had a lot of practice with this one, but at least she left the bionic hand at home!
KANYE WEST WON AN AWARD! HE NEEDS TO BE HAPPY! (ALL-CAPS IN HONOR OF KANYE.) However, Kanye “wants to be Elvis”. DUDE. At least he didn’t punch anyone. Here are the rest of last night’s winners:

Ah, time for a funny for Friday! Remember way back when super-cutie David Archuleta lost to David Cook on this year’s American Idol? Remember how it was the grownups fault? Yeah. Here’s a look at the worst day of the year for tweens everywhere. The reactions are priceless! “David Cook doesn’t even SHAVE!” And a lesson…don’t make bets with money you don’t have! Somebody’s gonna hate their mom for this in a few more years.
Snarkista ADORES American Idol winner David Cook. He melts her heart when he makes his sexy stalker looks! Here’s the video premiere of David’s first single “Light On”. It was directed by Wayne Isham, the man behind Britney Spears’ “Piece of Me” music video.
“Light On” is co-written by Soundgarden and Audioslave’s frontman Chris Cornell, as well as famed producer/songwriter Brian Howes. The single will be among the new tracks on Cook’s major-label debut album, “David Cook”, which is slated for purchase on November 18 in the U.S.
David Cook, winner and Snarkista’s total FAVE this past season on American Idol, is coming to Saturday Night Live on November 1st! He’ll be the musical guest for the night, and will perform his first single “Light On”. If you haven’t heard it, OR can’t get enough of it…here you go.
David’s appearance will be the earliest any American Idol winner or finalist has appeared on the show. He’ll be Idol number 4 to appear. The three other Idols to do SNL appeared quite a while after their albums had been released. Clay Aiken and Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson have all visited the show. With SNL’s ratings up in the stratosphere these days, it’s a SMART move by brainy Dave. (Snarkista loves a word-geek.)
David’s self-titled first album will drop on November 18th. His performance of “Light On†on SNL will be the first TV performance of the song. David’s will also do a live performance on Good Morning America November 17th. His national tour will begin in early 2009.
Season 7 runner-up, and tween sensation David Archuleta released his debut single “Crush” a few months ago, and it’s gotten a very warm welcome. Archie is an amazing talent, and a guy who is truly a great role model.Click to watch the precious video here at Snark Food!
The Davids had quite a battle for the win this year, but both seem to genuinely have a great time together. Cookie’s been like one of little Archie’s big brothers on the American Idol tour. Cook and finalistMichael Johns also have a blast with each other, and have gotten a lot of attention for their “Mavid” bro-dances on the tour. They are pretty dang funny! Check ’em out below… and save the date to watch Mr. Awesome on SNL.
DAVID COOK AND MICHAEL JOHNS: THE BRO-DANCE COLLECTION
Snarkista hearts American Idol Winner David Cook in a MAJOR way! Here’s his new single, set to drop September 30, “Light On”, produced by Grammy-winning producer Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Kid Rock). Give it a listen! You can click the bubble icon to turn off the chat if you want. It replays around 2:40. Personally, LOVE this one, and here are the lyrics. What do you think?
