“Howie is one of America’s favorite entertainers and his sense of humor and energy are irrepressible,” NBC Executive Vice President Paul Telegdy said in a press statement issued Sunday. “He’s passionate about new talent and his years of experience across a variety of disciplines in entertainment, not to mention the fact that he headlines and performs in Vegas all the time, will bring new depth to our panel. He will be a real asset to our contestants and help them take their talents to the next level. We are thrilled to have him join Sharon and Piers and are sure that sparks will fly!”

“We’re thrilled to have Howie join the show,” said executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz. “He’s an extraordinary, multi-faceted talent whose success story spans the gauntlet of all things entertainment. He will no doubt bring a dynamic, poignant and entertaining perspective to the judging panel that is all his own.”

The press release from NBC did not address the resignation of David Hasselhoff from the judging panel for the next season of America’s Got Talent. Piers Morgan said he was “really shocked” by the announcement David Hasselhoff would not be returning. “I didn’t know anything about this until last night,” Morgan said on the Today Show Thursday.

Hasselhoff announced Wednesday night he would be leaving the show after serving as a judge since 2006. Hasselhoff said he is planning on his own television project, which he said would be “announced very shortly.” Personally, we’re hoping Hasselhoff takes a break for some serious rehab before his new project…

America’s Got Talent returns in the summer for the show’s fifth season.

David Hasselhoff Released from Hospital, Denies Psychiatric Hold

America’s Got Talent judge David Hasselhoff has been released from the hospital and is resting back at home. Hasselhoff was rushed to the ER on Friday after reportedly suffering a seizure. Hasselhoff’s lawyer, Mel Goldsman, has issued a statement denying his client was placed under a psychiatric hold for evaluation while at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

“David’s at home,” Goldsman told E! News. “He’s fine.” As for a report by that Hasselhoff was placed under a psychiatric hold at the hospital, Goldsman dismissed the rumor, saying, “I’m not sure where that information is coming from.”

Hasselhoff has a serious history of alcohol problems, including several hospital stays allegedly due to his ongoing drinking. In 2007, his daughter videotaped the Hoff in a drunken stupor crawling around on the floor and munching a hamburger. The video was later posted to YouTube, allegedly by the Hoff’s daughter in an attempt to shame her father into getting help. Hasselhoff actually accused his ex-wife, Pamela Bach, of leaking the video. She denied the allegation.

In related news, Pamela Bach was arrested Saturday night for driving under the influence near Van Nuys, CA. She was later released on her own recognizance.

Looks like this whole family really needs a serious intervention session, stat.

David Hasselhoff in Hospital Yet Again

America’s Got Talent judge David Hasselhoff landed in the hospital again on Friday, this time as the result of a reported seizure. Hasselhoff has reportedly been hospitalized repeatedly over the past year, allegedly as the result of his ongoing serious alcohol problems.

Hasselhoff was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Friday after reportedly suffering from a seizure. Hasselhoff’s daughter reportedly called 911. “Paramedics arrived at approximately 11:51 AM and later transported the [Hasselhoff] to a nearby hospital,” Los Angeles City Fire Department Erik Scott said in a statement.

David Hasselhoff was hospitalized in September due to alcohol poisoning and appeared to be drunk as a skunk while presenting at the MTV Europe Music Awards earlier this month. Hasselhoff’s daughter famously posted a video in 2007 of her father drunk and rolling around on the floor eating a hamburger as a plea for him to get help for his alcoholism.

No word so far on whether alcohol contributed to Hasselhoff’s latest collapse.
