The MTV series Gone Too Far follows the stories of young drug addicts trying to break their addictions. DJ AM starred in the documentary series, which was filmed shortly before his death in August. Goldstein’s family decided to give permission to air the series because “helping people in their recovery was a huge part of Adam’s life.”

“It is our hope through airing this show that people will get to see the side of Adam that we knew and loved, not just the celebrity DJ, but the honest and caring person who gave so much of himself to help others,” Goldstein’s family said in a press statement. “The decision to air the show has been difficult, but we do this with the profound belief that it will inspire others to seek help.”

Gone Too Far begins airing on MTV on Oct 12.

DJ AM Death Ruled Accidental Drug Overdose

The death of Adam Goldstein, a.k.a. DJ AM, has been officially ruled an accidental drug overdose by the New York City medical examiner’s office. The announcement released on Tuesday stated DJ AM died of “acute intoxication” from a cocktail of prescription drugs and cocaine.

Celebrity DJ Adam Goldstein was found dead on August 28 in his New York apartment. A crack pipe and prescription pill bottles were reportedly found near his body. DJ AM had been taking at least one prescription to treat anxiety stemming from a tragic plane crash last year that killed four people and left Goldstein with serious burns.

The 36-year-old DJ survived the plane crash, along with Blink 182’s Travis Barker, but was left with ongoing pain and emotional trauma over the accident that killed four of their friends.

The toxicology report released by the New York City medical examiner’s office stated DJ AM had consumed OxyContin or a similar powerful pain killer, Xanax, Ativan, Benadryl and other drugs, along with cocaine, prior to his death. Sadly, Goldstein had recently taped an MTV reality series about drug addiction recovery shortly before his overdose. MTV has not yet decided whether they will air the series.

DJ AM Laid to Rest, Official Cause of Death Still Pending

Adam Goldstein, aka DJ AM, was laid to rest on Wednesday, less than a week after his tragic death from an apparent drug overdose. The official cause of Goldstein’s death has yet to be announced, but evidence continues to mount the star DJ may have committed suicide.

DJ AM was found dead in his apartment last Friday at the age of 36. A variety of prescription medications and illegal drug paraphernalia were allegedly discovered near his body. An unidentified police source reportedly told the AP DJ AM had swallowed a large quantity of the painkiller OxyContin just prior to his death.

The amount of pills taken by Goldstein and various personal objects found near him have led to speculation the young DJ may have taken his own life. Although preliminary autopsy results have been released, an official cause of death is pending further toxicology tests.

Goldstein’s apparent death by drug overdose was even more heart-breaking because he had struggled for over a decade to overcome a serious drug addiction. Seriously burned in a terrible plane accident last year that killed four others and also injured Travis Barker of Blink-182, DJ AM may have re-ignited his addiction while taking painkillers for his injuries. Goldstein was set to star in an upcoming MTV reality show about drug addiction in an effort to help kids who were battling similar demons.

Travis Barker of Blink-182, one of DJ AM’s closest friends, was among those who attended Goldstein’s funeral on Wednesday at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles. Barker and his band have cancelled several gigs on their latest tour to take time to mourn for their lost friend. Hayley Wood, Goldstein’s girlfriend, was also in attendance at the DJ AM funeral. Although previous media reports have speculated DJ AM may have become severely depressed over a breakup with Wood, she denies the two had split prior to his death.

A private memorial will be held for DJ AM on Thursday at the Hollywood Palladium.

DJ AM Autopsy Results Inconclusive

An official cause of death for 36 year-old Adam Goldstein, aka DJ AM, has yet to be determined. Autopsy results from the New York City Medical Examiner’s office did not yield enough information to determine how the popular DJ died.

New York City Medical Examiner spokesperson Ellen Borakove said in a press statement that additional toxicology and tissue testing would be needed to uncover the cause of Goldstein’s death, according to People.

Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein was found dead in his New York apartment on Friday afternoon after a 911 call indicated he had not been seen in several days. Unconfirmed reports allege both prescription and illegal drugs may have been found in the apartment.

DJ AM, who survived a tragic plane accident last September that killed four people, previously battled drug abuse in his twenties. However, he recently stated he had been clean and sober for nearly a dozen years. Goldstein and Travis Barker of Blink-182 both suffered severe injuries in the plane crash and some theorize DJ AM may have fallen off the wagon after becoming addicted to pain medication.

Goldstein was also reportedly distraught over a recent breakup with model girlfriend Hayley Wood.
