Ellen DeGeneres is part of the British royal family

I don’t think anyone would ever confuse comedienne and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres for royalty, but it turns out she’s distantly related to the woman who will one day be the Queen of England. Kate Middleton, fiancée of Prince William, is Ellen’s 15th cousin.

The news came via a letter from the New England Genealogical Society, in which Ellen was informed that although the relationship between her and the Middletons is distant, it’s there nonetheless.  Ellen, of course, joked about being invited to the wedding, but somehow I don’t see it happening.  Being 15th cousins does not exactly make her and Kate besties.

Jennifer Aniston not adopting

Rumors have been circulating that Friends star Jennifer Aniston is planning on adopting a baby from Mexico, but she told Ellen DeGeneres that it’s simply not true.  During the interview, which will air on the Thursday episode of Ellen’s show, Jennifer laughs about the rumors and says that she has no plans to adopt any children… at least not right now.

Jennifer joked that she didn’t understand why the press was focused on her when her Just Go with It co-star, Adam Sandler adopted four Mexican children and nobody said anything about it.  It’s jokes like that, that show why Jennifer’s comedy career has gone the way it has.

Katy Perry will become Katy Brand

It may be old-fashioned, but it’s also very sweet – Katy Perry has made the decision to change her last name to that of her husband, Russell Brand.  In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Perry said that people were already calling her “Mrs. Brand” to get her attention, and she’s already accustomed to turning around when people say it.

Later in the interview, Katy said that she was thrilled to be married to Russell, but that she was thankful for Helen Mirren spending so much time with her husband as a movie co-star.  Katy says Russell can be a handful, and it’s nice to have someone else to take him off her hands sometimes.

Beyonce’s mom says there’s no baby on the way

Despite reports in major magazines and newspapers earlier this week, Tina Knowles (Beyonce’s mother) appeared on Ellen DeGeneres‘ show to say that no, it’s not true – Beyonce is not pregnant.  She went on to say that if every pregnancy rumor in the press were true, she’d have six grandchildren by now.

Knowles says that she can’t wait to be a grandmother again, though, and that if and when it finally happens, no one will be happier than she will.  So now it’s time to wonder – is it possible that Mom has been kept out of the loop and that B actually is pregnant, or is it more likely that the press jumped to conclusions too easily?

Portia de Rossi to Take Ellen DeGeneres Last Name

Now that Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres are legally wed once again thanks to a historic ruling overturning California’s Prop 8 ban on gay marriage, Portia de Rossi has filed to legally change her name to Portia DeGeneres.

The Arrested Development star filed Friday to legally change her name to honor her marriage to the TV talk show host and former American Idol judge. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi married in 2008 during the brief time same-sex marriage was legal in the state.

Now that California’s Prop 8 ban on gay marriage has been overturned in a history (and incredibly eloquent) decision, de Rossi and DeGeneres are now legal again. The name change will go up for a Sept. 23 hearing but it’s unlikely there will be any trouble with the court granting the request. The couple’s wedding anniversary is next week – what a nice present for Ellen!

Portia de Rossi, interestingly enough, is an entirely made up name anyway. The Australian-born star actually came into the world under the moniker Amanda Lee Rogers. She picked out Portia de Rossi for her stage name when she started modeling and had it legally changed at age 15.

We are pleased to see at least one celebrity lesbian couple that seems to be going strong. After watching Rosie O’Donnell and Kelli Carpenter break up and Melissa Etheridge and Tammy Lynn Michaels implode, it’s nice to see one lady couple that appears to be keeping it together somehow!

New Ellen DeGeneres Record Label Signs Greyson Chance

Talk show host and American Idol judge Ellen DeGeneres has just announced the launch of her own record label. The first artist on the bill? 12-year-old “Paparazzi” YouTube star Greyson Chance.

Greyson Chance was launched to stardom at the tender age of 12 after he posted a video of himself singing Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” in a talent show on YouTube. Ellen DeGeneres stumbled on the clip and immediately booked Chance on her talk show. The Greyson Chance “Paparazzi” video has now garnered more than 30 million views worldwide.

Elle DeGeneres fell hard for the miniature Justin Bieber; she decided to launch a record label just to sign Greyson Chance as the first artist. “Greyson… inspired me to start a record label called eleveneleven,” DeGeneres said. “He is my first artist, and we are making a record together.”

On the Ellen DeGeneres show Wednesday, Chance said his sudden fame “really just hasn’t sunken in yet. It has been two weeks, and it still hasn’t sunken in yet. It’s awesome.”

Ellen DeGeneres isn’t the only high profile powerhouse to get behind Chance. Madonna‘s manager, Guy Oseary, and Lady Gaga‘s manager, Troy Carter, have signed on to co-manage the young singer.

DeGeneres plans to use her new record label to promote the careers of other artists she finds through her show. We can’t help but wonder if we might be seeing a few American Idol castoffs in the label’s future?
