It looks like Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson won’t be married for much longer, as Ashlee filed for divorce a couple of days ago in Los Angeles. Â The official papers cite “irreconcilable differences,” but sources close to Ashlee have said that she wanted to get out of the marriage because her husband’s behavior was often out of control.
Pete Wentz is said to be against the idea of divorce, and he tried to talk Ashlee out of the decision, to no avail. Â Once it became clear that she would not be talked out of it, Pete did what he thought was best for their child and went along with the divorce petition.
In perhaps the most amicable split Hollywood has ever seen, George Lopez and Ann Lopez have mutually agreed to end their 17-year marriage.  The couple have a 15-year-old daughter, Mayan, and claim in their statement that their joint priorities are to their daughter and to the Lopez Foundation, which they will continue to manage together.  Ann gave George one of her kidneys in 2005, and of course the joke of the day is about whether or not she’ll be asking for that back in the divorce settlement.  I think that’s the only way people can inject drama into this situation, as otherwise this looks like a pretty boring and mature decision on the part of the couple.  They got married, they gave it their best shot, it didn’t work out… and now they’re facing their marriage issues like adults, unlike some other couples we could mention (I won’t name names, but their initials are Heidi and Spencer).
