Although their relationship was never actually officially confirmed, it appears The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev and Derek Hough dating run is already over. The two have allegedly decided to break up after dating for only six weeks because the long-distance relationship was too difficult.

According to USMagazine.com, Derek Hough and Nina Dobrev split up because “the distance was too much to handle” and the relationship had just petered out. Nina and Derek allegedly hooked up back in September when The Vampire Diaries star was hanging out a lot with his sister Julianne Hough.

Kayla Baker, Ailing Vampire Diaries Fan Visited By Stars, Receives Life-Saving Lung

lKayla Baker, ailing Vampire Diaries fan visited by stars, receives life-saving lung transplant. Dobrev posted the news on Friday, after she and Somerhalder spent time with the 14-year-old patient in Toronto over Easter Weekend. “Sending congratulations to @kayla_0507 and her family. We all secreted this. Her life has been saved. I’m smiling ear to ear,” wrote the actress.

She added, “Ps. I’m an organ donor! Everyone should be! You can save someone’s life. I am grateful to Kayla’s fearless Hero.” Earlier this week, Dobrev posted photos of her and Somerhalder’s hospital visit with Baker. The star told Baker, “Happy Easter @kayla_0507!!!! Thinking of you today – sending you positive vibes ! We had so much fun hanging out with you yesterday! :)”

Boone comes back to life to save the earth

Ian Somerhalder, the guy who went from playing the dead Boone on Lost to playing the undead Damon on The Vampire Diaries, has spoken out about his feelings regarding the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.  Apparently the environment ranks pretty high on his list of concerns, but he’s even more concerned about coming across as one of those celebrity douchebags who parades around talking about environmental causes while maintaining a carbon footprint the size of Montana.

Somerhalder told Reuters that he was concerned about crossing the line between being a celebrity and being an activist, but when you look at his history with charity work and green concerns, he appears to be the real deal.  He’s not just another pretty face talking about a token cause for publicity – he actually seems to be spending time working on projects that mean something to him.
