Javier Bardem is probably happy about his surprise Oscar nomination this week, but that takes a back seat to the excitement of welcoming his first child on the exact same day. Â Penelope Cruz, Bardem’s wife, gave birth at Cedars-Sinai this week, and the baby is said to be healthy.
The couple are being particularly secretive about announcing the name and the gender of the child, but considering their history, it’s hardly surprising – when Cruz and Bardem began dating in 2007, they didn’t even tell anyone, and the first news that came out was after their secret wedding in July of last year. Â At this rate, we can expect more news about their baby sometime in 2014.
