Jon and Kate Gosselin started out on their reality TV journey together, along with their eight kids, on Jon and Kate Plus 8. The stress of life on television, however, proved too much for the couple and they divorced in 2009.

Although Jon Gosselin briefly pursued more Hollywood gigs (and a handful of girlfriends), he has now settled down to a relatively quiet life as a computer support engineer. Kate Gosselin, meanwhile, has continued to try to keep her and her children in the public eye as much as possible. Now that TLC has cancelled Kate Plus 8, Kate Gosselin told People she’s “freaking out” about how she is going to support her eight kids.

“Things will work out the way they should work out,” Jon Gosselin told RumorFix.com about hearing the news of the cancellation. “Obviously, there are families out there that have several kids – people work normal jobs, and things work out.”

Jon Gosselin, who pays child support on his eight kids and says he sees them “a lot,” thinks his ex-wife should focus on getting “back to a normal life — a simple life.” As for whether or not Kate Gosselin will be able to keep the farmhouse in Pennsylvania where she and the kids live (and Jon and Kate spent their final days as a couple), Jon Gosselin seemed unconcerned. “I don’t have a farm on 24 acres and the kids seem to have a great time at my house,” he said.”

“I told them I will work my fingers to the bone to make sure that they can stay here and go to their school,” Kate Gosselin told People. “There are no guarantees in life for anyone, but they know that I’m giving it my best shot.”

The final episode of Kate Plus 8 airs on September 12 on TLC.

Jon Gosselin’s former attorney allegedly told TMZ.com recently that his client wanted primary custody of his kids because Kate Gosselin was an “absentee mom.” Gosselin says Anthony List Sr. went forward with legal filings for custody of the kids without his permission.

“I never wanted primary custody, he [List] filed for that,” Gosselin told TMZ.com on Thursday. “I only wanted a more flexible custody schedule so I could be with my kids.”

Gosselin posted a message to his Twitter account saying he had fired List on April 15. “He has no legal right to speak to the press or anyone on my behalf,” Gosselin Tweeted. Despite rumors of a heated custody battle between them, Jon Gosselin says he and Kate Gosselin are “moving to work out things privately and amicably.”

Gosselin’s former attorney, however, claims he had permission to file for primary custody. “Jon signed off on everything,” List told TMZ.com.

Jon and Kate Gosselin are due in court May 25 for a custody hearing. We hope these two really can put aside their differences for the sake of their kids and stop battling out their crap in the media.

Of course, since Jon Gosselin is reportedly preparing to sue Kate Gosselin for full custody of their kids, we’re thinking she’s probably not very open to that idea. Still, Jon Gosselin doesn’t seem to think a little thing like a nasty custody battle should interfere in his quest to get back on television.

Gosselin’s attorney told TMZ.com his client would certainly be happy to consider co-starring with his ex-wife on a new TV program “under the right circumstances.” One condition of such collaboration, Gosselin’s attorney said, would be a much “tighter” contract. Jon Gosselin got slammed by TLC not long ago for allegedly breaching his contract with the network by doing interviews and endorsements without their permission.

Last week, Jon Gosselin’s lawyer revealed the former reality TV dad was preparing to sue Kate Gosselin for full custody of their eight children because her quest for fame is “damaging his kids.” Gosselin claims his ex-wife is an “absentee mom” who cares more about her career than the welfare of her children, citing her gig on Dancing With the Stars as an example.

Then, naturally, Jon Gosselin turns right around and talks about how he wants to get some of that fame back for himself. Well, considering he’s unemployed and paying out huge loads of cash to Kate Gosselin in spousal support, we’re not surprised. We’re pretty sure Kate Gosselin will be telling him to stuff it all the way around. And a judge isn’t likely to award full custody of their kids to a man with pretty much no job and a shaky string of girlfriends rotating through his door.

Monday night’s finale of Jon & Kate Plus 8 opened with a snarky shot of a sign posted by Jon Gosselin in front of the former couple’s home stating: “No film crew or production staff from TLC is permitted on this property under penalty of Trespass.”

TLC obviously wanted to make it clear why most of the episode was a rehash of former shows and scraped off the floor b-roll video – and exactly who was to blame for that. Kate Gosselin was clear in driving home the point that the end of Jon & Kate Plus 8 is all Jon Gosselin’s fault too.

“This is a very bittersweet goodbye for me because the kids are already missing it,” Kate Gosselin said. “Our show has provided opportunities that we wouldn’t have otherwise had. I feel like it’s been taken from us. From me and the kids… It’s needless; it’s useless. It was totally avoidable.”

Jon Gosselin, meanwhile, basked in the glory of his newfound freedom in his final moments on tape. “Our marriage fell apart, and I felt like I was free,” Gosselin said. Free, he said, to revert to being a 23-year-old again. Nice touch how he basically said it was awesome that he can run away and escape his kids whenever he wants and only come back when he ‘misses’ them.

All in all, the Jon & Kate Plus 8 finale was a sad homage to the ruin of a family that once captured our hearts and now just makes us cringe every time we see the name ‘Gosselin’ in a headline.

Kate Gosselin may still have feelings for her soon-to-be ex, but getting unhitched from this loser is the best thing she could do for herself. You just don’t bring flowers to your ex in the midst of divorce proceedings. Talk about a lack of class!

“This has been called the real-life War of the Roses,” Jon Gosselin’s attorney Mark Heller told People, “and he brought that as a peace offering to break the ice and try to bring the war to an end.” Kate Gosselin, unsurprisingly, turned the ‘peace’ offering down cold.

Jon and Kate Gosselin’s divorce should hopefully be finalized by the end of the year. Unfortunately, with TLC suing Jon Gosselin for breach of contract and Kate Gosselin working on her own nefarious plans for a new TV show – we’ll surely have yet another year of Gosselins in the tabloids to (not) look forward to.

The final episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8 airs Monday night on TLC. Can’t say we’re all that sorry to see it go!

TLC filed the lawsuit against Jon Gosselin last month, claiming the Jon & Kate Plus 8 star violated his contract agreements by making TV appearances without the network’s permission. Gosselin is scheduled to appear in court on December 14. TLC has filed subpoenas for his girlfriend, Hailey Glassman and friend Michael Lohan, as well as Gosselin’s lawyer, bodyguard and talent agent, to also appear in court as witnesses against him.

Michael Lohan, who has stirred up controversy himself in an ongoing battle with daughter Lindsay Lohan, has been called in to testify about business dealings with Jon Gosselin. Lohan has publicly stated he was working on an idea for a reality show about divorced dads with Gosselin at one point.

As for Hailey Glassman, she could prove bad news for her on-again, off-again boyfriend. Obviously she has no problems talking about things that make Jon Gosselin look bad in the press. Just recently, Glassman appeared in a TV interview and called Gosselin “emotionally abusive” and prone to “mantrums”.

“He said he was going to kill himself,” Stephanie Santoro told RadarOnline.com. The former Gosselin babysitter claims Jon Gosselin called her after he and girlfriend Hailey Glassman broke up and said he “was going to end it all… [Jon said] that he couldn’t handle it anymore. That his kids would be better taken care of by Kate if he wasn’t around.”

As for Hailey Glassman, Jon’s so-called girlfriend, she’s also spilling her guts about her relationship with the former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star everywhere she gets a chance. In an interview on The Insider, Glassman said when Jon and Kate Gosselin first split, Jon would “just sit there and ask ‘Why? Why? Why?’ and just sat there and cried. And he didn’t understand… It’s like he can’t handle somebody leaving him.”

Perhaps all these woman dissing him in the media has finally gotten through to him. Jon Gosselin publicly apologized for his recent behavior this week and said he is “committed to making things right with Hailey as well as Kate and especially my children. I ask you to please give me the opportunity to prove myself.”

Haven’t you been given enough opportunities already, Mr. Gosselin?

“He’ll call me and take his anger out on me,” Hailey Glassman says in the interview. “He has ‘mantrums.’ I shouldn’t have to put up with being emotionally abused. I cry and say, ‘Why are you so mean to me?’” However, despite Jon Gosselin’s treatment of her, Glassman did not confirm rumors the two have officially broken up. Although, after this interview, Jon Gosselin would be a total idiot not to dump Glassman’s fame-whoring ass if they are still an item.

“I don’t want to leave him all alone. I love him but I dislike him at times. When I love someone, I would never hurt them.” Hailey Glassman also claims Jon Gosselin has “trouble with the truth… he will dance and dance around his lies. He’s like Jekyll and Hyde.”

Even so, Glassman apparently can’t shake her feelings for Gosselin. “I love him, but as for my family and I, he needs to regain our trust.”

Most amusingly, Glassman says she wants her “name to be forgotten” by the media. The problem is, she is saying this while prostituting herself out for yet another media interview. Sorry, Hailey, it’s hard to believe you crave anonymity when you won’t shut the hell up whenever the media comes knocking at your door.

Apparently though, In Touch Weekly thought spreading the rumor Octomom and Jon Gosselin really were going to get it on for a new reality show would be a hot ratings grab. The tabloid reportedly went crazy with an obviously ridiculous (and alleged) quote from former Cheaters producer Bobby Goldstein, who said Octomom Nadya Suleman and Jon Gosselin had agreed to sign on for a reality dating show.

“I heard that Nadya has an insatiable desire to spend time with Jon and to put their families together,” Goldstein allegedly told the tabloid. “And I had the idea that this could be a very entertaining fiasco.”

Just for the record, although Suleman has admitted to a crush on Jon Gosselin, reps for both the Octomom and Gosselin have denied any involvement in a dual reality show featuring the two hooking up. “This is the first I’ve even heard of it,” Gosselin’s manager said. “This isn’t happening.”

To which we have to say, thank god!

“I’ve done enough years on TV that I feel like it’s a normal, comfortable, natural place to be,” Kate Gosselin said on the ‘question and answer’ episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8. “I’d love to be in a movie at some point, I’d love to be the voice of a cartoon character in a movie for my kids. I think that would be fun.”

Fun for her, we’re sure. After all, without that Hollywood paycheck, how is she going to afford her full-time nanny? Her part-time nanny? Her house cleaner? Her landscapers? Her shoe habit and hair stylist? Fame and fortune is like crack, once you smoke it, you just can’t ever go back – even if it ruins your life, kills your marriage and corrupts your children.

The sad thing is, someone out there will probably give her what she wants – for a while. As long as Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin remain a tabloid headline, there will be sleazeballs willing to cash in on the free publicity. Kate Gosselin has already taped a pilot for one talk show already. TLC is still hoping to get Kate Plus 8 off the ground, despite Jon Gosselin’s injunction against any further taping of his children. Kate Gosselin has got her mouth on the fame bit and she’s not likely to let go anytime soon.

The saddest thing is that Kate Gosselin doesn’t seem to realize the only real reason why anyone wants her at this point is to exploit her and her family drama – not because she’s all that interesting herself. Hollywood will probably be happy to use and abuse her until the public loses interest – and then they’ll dump her off into obscurity again without a second thought.
