Joplin Missouri Tornado Video Shows Terror of Monster Storm

A new and horrifying Joplin, Missouri tornado video posted on YouTube shows the power and terror of the devastating storm that took 89 lives over the weekend. This video is one of the first to emerge online from the survivors of the tornado, which cut a 6-mile path of destruction through southwestern Missouri.

In the video of the Joplin, Missouri tornado below, you can hear the screams of adults and children as the twister hits the convenience store where they are hiding.

The poster of the video on YouTube, izelsg, says the video was taken at “Fastrip on east 20th street” in Joplin, Missouri. “We huddled in the back of the store until the glass got sucked out, then ran into the walk in storage fridge. Sorry for the lack of visuals but the audio is pretty telling of how intense the storm was. The tornado hits at around 1:20 seconds.”

A hospital and a high school were among the buildings destroyed in the massive tornado strike in Joplin. Another frightening video from ABC News taken by storm chasers shows how truly enormous the deadly tornado was as it passed through the city.

“You see pictures of World War II, the devastation and all that with the bombing. That’s really what it looked like,” Joplin High School principal Kerry Sachetta told USA Today.

At least 89 people are reported dead in the aftermath of the Joplin tornado. The tornado in Joplin was one of nearly 70 tornadoes reported across seven states over the weekend.
