Former Giants Linebacker Lawrence Taylor Indicted on Rape Charges

Former Giants Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor was indicted Wednesday on charges of rape, patronizing a prostitute and endangering the welfare of a child. The charges stem from an incident in May when Taylor allegedly paid $300 ito engage in sexual acts with a 16-year-old girl.

Lawrence Taylor was arrested in a New York hotel on May 6 after he allegedly had sexual relations with a teenage prostitute. The girl told police she had been threatened and assaulted by a pimp who forced her to be with Taylor for $300 in cash.

Taylor denies he had sex with the girl and claims he only touched himself while the girl watched. The unidentified girl, however, told The NY Daily News the two did have sex. “If he’s saying we didn’t, that’s not true,” she said.

If convicted on all charges, Lawrence Taylor could face up to four years in jail.

“Based on the severity of these allegations, Nutrisystem has made the decision to sever our relationship with Mr. Taylor effective immediately,” a spokesman for the company said in a press statement.

The Hall of Fame linebacker and former Dancing With the Stars contestant was charged Thursday with raping a 16-year-old girl in a hotel room. Police say the victim was reportedly a runaway assaulted and then forcefully brought to the hotel room by a man named Rasheed Davis. Lawrence Taylor allegedly paid $300 to have sex with the girl. Davis was also later arrested.

Nutrisystem said it was “shocked and saddened” by the allegations against Taylor. An advertisement posted on the company’s website formerly proclaiming Taylor lost 35 lbs using Nutrisystem has been removed.

Lawrence Taylor was arraigned on Thursday and later released. A judge set Taylor’s bail at $75,000. He is due back in court on June 10. Taylor’s attorney denies his client is guilty of any crime and “didn’t have sex with anybody, period.”
