Rapper Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to felony gun possession in New York on Thursday and is expected to spent a year in jail for his crime. Lil Wayne is also facing charges in Arizona on felony drug possession and criminal weapons possession related to a January, 2008 arrest by U.S. Border Patrol authorities. He has pleaded not guilty in that case.
Lil Wayne was arrested in July, 2007 following a concert and taken into custody for criminal possession of a weapon. Police reportedly pulled over Wayne’s tour bus after seeing and smelling marijuana smoke floating out the bus door before it hit the road after the concert. Another man with Wayne was busted for criminal possession of marijuana.
Ironically, Lil Wayne had reportedly complained earlier in the evening about being hassled by police. Lesson there – don’t badmouth the cops lest you invoke some nasty karma your way.
Lil Wayne will remain free on bail until his official sentencing hearing in February, but was forced to surrender his passport.
