English actress Lynn Redgrave died yesterday of breast cancer at the age of 67, her children announced on Monday. Redgrave died peacefully at her home after battling breast cancer since 2003.
“Our beloved mother Lynn Rachel passed away peacefully after a seven year journey with breast cancer,” Lynn Redgrave’s family said in a press statement Monday. “She lived, loved and worked harder than ever before. The endless memories she created as a mother, grandmother, writer, actor and friend will sustain us for the rest of our lives. Our entire family asks for privacy through this difficult time.”
Lynn Redgrave earned two Oscar nominations during her extensive career, one in 1967 for her starring role in Georgy Girl and one in 1999 for best supporting actress for her role in Gods and Monsters. Redgrave most recently starred in the one-woman play Nightingale, which she created based on her grandmother Beatrice, and appeared on an episode of Desperate Housewives in 2007.
Redgrave’s older brother, actor Corin Redgrave, died at age 70 in London last month. Last year, Redgrave’s niece, actress Natasha Richardson, died of a head injury sustained in a skiing accident. Redgrave is survived by three children, Benjamin, Kelly and Annabel Lucy, as well as her sister, Vanessa Redgrave.
