Academy Award-winning actress Helen Hunt may be signing on to replace Maura Tierney on NBC’s upcoming drama series Parenthood. Tierney was forced to drop out of the series due to ongoing treatment for breast cancer.
Helen Hunt’s last television gig was starring in the comeody series Mad About You, which ran for seven years. Hunt moved on to making feature films after leaving television.
The new Parenthood series will be a remake TV version of Ron Howard‘s 1989 movie by the same name, which starred Steve Martin, Dianne Wiest and Mary Steenburgen. The series will focus on the drama-filled lives of four adult siblings and their parents. Hunt would be playing the part of one of the siblings, originally played by Dianne Wiest in the film.
Parenthood was originally scheduled to launch in the fall, but has been delayed to midseason due to Tierney’s battle with breast cancer. Peter Krause, Erika Christensen and Dax Shepard will play the other three siblings, with Bonnie Bedelia and Craig T. Nelson playing the parents.
Hunt is reportedly considering the role but has not officially signed on yet to take the part.
