British Rapper Pays 37K for Back to the Future Marty McFly Shoes

Fans of the Back to the Future films, starring Michael J Fox as Marty McFly, can now own their very version of his futurstic sneakers from part two of the series. Nike is releasing 1,500 pairs of the new Nike Mag shoes to be put up for auction on eBay. Proceeds from the Marty McFly shoes will go to the Michal J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s disease research.

Each pair of the Nike Mag shoes are exact replicas (minus the self-lacing feature) of the ones worn by character Marty McFly in Back to the Future Part 2. The limited edition sneakers feature a futuristic design and glowing LED panel and NIKE logo that can be turned on and off by pressing on the top of the shoe. The glow glowing lights last for five hours per charge.

The very first pair of Nike Mag Marty McFly shoes has already been sold for a whopping $37,500. The buyer? A British rapper by the name of Tinie Tempah who is apparently a total shoe freak, according to TMZ.com.

“The NIKE MAG is no longer the ‘greatest shoe never made.’ The mythical shoe that originally captured the imagination of audiences in Back to the Future II is being released – and they’re here to help create a future without Parkinson’s disease,” Nike said in a press release.

“It hasn’t gone unnoted by us that there is something special about that shoe and, of course, the movie,” Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield, who worked on the movie shoes and the limited editions, said.

“Each day for the duration of the ten-day auction, one hundred and fifty pairs of the 2011 NIKE MAG shoes will be made available via eBay’s Fashion Vault,” Nike said. “The auction starts September 8, 8:30PM PST, and will end September 18. Thanks to a previous 50 million dollar match given to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, all donations will be matched, effectively doubling the contributions from the auction.”
