VIDEO: First Lady Michelle Obama Booed at NASCAR Finale

First Lady Michelle Obama was the recipient of a rude reception at the NASCAR final event for the season on Friday. Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, served as the grand marshals of the NASCAR race at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden were on hand as grand marshals for the NASCAR final to promote Joining Forces, an organization dedicated to helping military veterans find training and new jobs. The two ladies were joined by veteran Army Sgt. Andrew Barry, who served in the Afgan and Iraqi wars, and his family.

As the group was introduced to the audience, the crowd cheered loudly for the soldier, but the cheers turned to boos by some when First Lady Michelle Obama’s name was announced. The First Lady and companions seemed unfazed by the booing as they delivered the famous race opening line: “Gentlemen, start your engines!”

Although the booing by the crowd has made national headlines, ABC News reports that one source from the event said no one could even hear the negative response over the “loud, chaotic program with jets flying over and tons of noise.”
