Michelle Obama PETA Ad

The White House released a statement saying that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has no authority or right to use the image of Michelle Obama in any of their advertisements. Obama’s press secretary did confirm the First Lady “does not wear fur” but said she did not consent to have her image used in PETA’s anti-fur campaign.

In a response statement, PETA said the organization has not “asked the White House to fund or promote the campaign, as they can’t do such things. However, the organization claims no wrongdoing in using the First Lady’s image to promote their cause. “The fact is that Michelle Obama has issued a statement indicating that she doesn’t wear fur, and the world should know that in PETA’s eyes, that makes her pretty fabulous.”

We think PETA is pretty fabulously ballsy for using Michelle Obama’s image to promote their campaign without her permission. And even worse, they put her behind Oprah Winfrey in the ad! Isn’t that kind of like saying Oprah is cooler than President Barack Obama‘s wife? We’re not touching that one.

Rarely is Snarkista speechless, but today she’s pretty damn close. Behold Michelle Obama in London, one of the fashion capitols of the world. Unfortunately, Miss Thang appears to have run through the notions department at Fabrics-R-Us following a vicious glue-gun fight.

“But,” you may say, “perhaps she was visiting Piccadilly Circus, and was tripped up by the ‘circus’ part?” No… sadly, this was Michelle’s pick to visit Westminster Abbey. Nothing says “reverence” like an homage to Bozo.

This getup makes the “black widow” election-night dress look positively regal. For those of you still hanging on to those “Jackie-O” comparisons, you may now let go.

Snarkista wonders if Michelle would really make such a spectacle of her speech, even if she IS pregnant. Still, if you subscribe to the “all press is good press” school of thought, it certainly would be front-page news. She definitely needs to make people forget some of her controversial remarks of the past, and a preggers announcement would certainly divert some attention! She WILL be making the case for “her man” tonight, and if her man’s been gettin busy, it would probably reinforce his family-man image. It would also highlight the fact that John and Cindy McCain are too old to be makin’ babies. One thing’s for sure, she won’t be talking about Obama’s birth certificate. Stay tuned…

Politico reports that Barack, when told of the upcoming issue said:

“I have no response to that.”

But Michelle’s stylists will!

The magazine explains at the start of its news release previewing the issue: “On the cover of the July 21, 2008, issue of the The New Yorker, in ‘The Politics of Fear,’ artist Barry Blitt satirizes the use of scare tactics and misinformation in the Presidential election to derail Barack Obama’s campaign.”

I’m sure Senator Obama is THRILLED for The New Yorker’s help! Snarkista imagines the satiric New Yorker will be great fodder for fearmongers who will take it quite seriously.
