Katie Stam, Miss Indiana, won the title of Miss America last night…and she’s the first contestant from the state to EVER win the competition! Miss America hopefuls always give us words to live by during the interview segment, and Katie offered up these:

“That beauty that you feel on the inside, it’s that confidence, that radiance inside of you, that’s what glamour is.”

Ah, glamour. What the world needs now. Katie fought laryngitis, but managed to belt out a rendition of “Via Dolorosa” during the talent portion. Nothing like a song about Jesus going to the cross to evoke glamour!

The 22-year-old University of Indianapolis student also thinks the use of performance-enhancing drugs among professional athletes is bad. True that, Katie.

The pageant keeps getting tweaked in an attempt to lure watchers. This year, the selection of four top finalists was made by votes cast by viewers. Additionally, the pageant hit a new fug low with the “casual denim” atrocities forced on the contestants. Someone desperately needs to tweak the costume department.

Mario Lopez hosted last night, and Katie won a $50,000 scholarship. Congrats to Katie and the Hoosiers!
