Twilight sequel New Moon has broken the previously impressive midnight box office record of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Price, Summit Entertainment officials announced Friday. New Moon took in $26.3 million in midnight showing sales in the U.S. The Twilight sequel is projected to earn a whopping $100 million during the film’s opening weekend.
By contrast, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince took in $22.2 million in midnight screenings this part July. New Moon is now the all-time highest grossing film for midnight screenings in the U.S. We’re sure it won’t be the last record New Moon will make in ticket sales and overall profits.
Summit Entertainment also raked in an additional 1.3 million in ticket sales on Thursday with special screenings of Twilight in advance of the New Moon premiere.
The moral of the story is, make the Twilight fans happy and they’ll make your wallets happy too!
Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson has been making the rounds on talk shows galore to promote the premiere of New Moon. Pattinson appeared on both the Today Show and Live with Regis and Kelly on Thursday to talk about the Twilight sequel and his own sudden fame.
In his apperance on the Today Show, Robert Pattinson joked about the massive amount of tabloid rumors he is constantly trying to fight off. Talking to Matt Lauer, Pattinson joked that apparently he’s been dating “literally nonstop” and humorously said, “I actually come up with these rumors about myself.”
When asked on Regis & Kelly what he thought girls find so alluring about vampires, the drama or the biting, Pattinson replied: “Yes. Just the biting.”

Miley Cyrus apparently is no fan of the Twilight franchise and has no plans on ever seeing the original film or the sequel, New Moon. In an interview with Q92 radio, Cyrus said she doesn’t “want anything to do” with the Twilight madness that has overtaken the country.
When asked if she was on Team Edward or Team Jacob, Miley Cyrus responded in the radio interview that she’s never seen Twilight and never will. “It’s a cult. I don’t believe in it,” Cyrus opined. “I don’t like vampires, I don’t like any of that stuff.”
Cyrus even seemingly complained about the commercials for New Moon airing in endless repeat on television leading up to the premiere. “I don’t like the wolf that pops out of the screen when I’m watching TV at night, I don’t want anything to do with it.”
Well, at least Cyrus admits she is kind of a pansy for her dislike of all things Twilight. “I feel really lame because everyone’s, like, so excited,” Cyrus said. “I’m like, ‘Don’t even talk about it.'”
Awh, Miley, did you have dreams they might pick you to be Bella and were terribly pissed when you never got the call? Or do you honestly not get that at least half your fans are probably die-hard Twilight groupies and you’ve just basically called them losers?
Twilight fans are so stoked about the second installment of the vampire film series, they are already setting records for New Moon ticket sales! With only four more days until the premiere, advanced ticket sales for New Moon, starring Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, are already through the roof.
New Moon currently holds the number one spot on Fandango.com for advanced ticket sales, making it the top-selling pre-release for the company in the last decade. That means New Moon actually beat out the pre-sales of tickets for Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Twilight, in case you’re curious, ranks at number five on the top advanced ticket sales list for Fandango.com.
A survey by Fandango of fans shows almost 100% think the action in New Moon looks better than the action in Twilight and 50% of respondents admit to dreaming about vampires. Okay, so that’s a little silly, but kind of amusing.
Around 500 people started lining up in Los Angeles for the New Moon premiere there on Monday in the Westwood Village. Now THAT is some serious dedication to the Twilight cause!
