Nic Cage’s finances not as desperate as we thought

The papers have all been reporting how broke Nicolas Cage is and how his finances are a complete disaster, but he seems to have come up with a serious amount of money when it really counted – at his son’s wedding. The actor not only paid for most of the ceremony, he also booked a luxury hotel suite in New Orleans for four days, and rented a private jet for the couple to go home after the honeymoon.

The wedding itself was pretty extravagant, with Cage dishing out for all sorts of unnecessary expenses, including a fireworks display at the end of the ceremony. Obviously “broke” means something else in the celebrity world than it does in yours and mine.

Nicolas Cage arrested for domestic abuse

Nicolas Cage spent some time in jail over the weekend for domestic abuse and disturbing the peace, after a drunken fight with his wife got out of hand. Cage and his wife were arguing over the address of a property they rented, when Cage pulled his wife by the arm.

Though she was not injured, police took Cage in for abuse after he dared cops to arrest him. Oddly, Dog the Bounty Hunter posted bail on Cage’s behalf, though Cage was not released from jail until more than eight hours later. He will have to appear later in the month for a court date to defend the charges.

Actor Nicolas Cage is being sued for abuse by Christina Fulton, the mother of Cage’s 18-year-old son Weston Coppola Cage. Fulton is suing Cage for $13 million over allegations of “mental, physical and emotional abuse.”

Nicolas Cage and Christina Fulton began dating in 1988, but never married and eventually split up. Fulton claims Cage bought her a house at some point, but never transferred the title to her. In September, the actor reportedly served his ex-lover with a 60-day notice to move out so he could sell the house. Cage currently owes millions to the IRS and is suing his business manager, Sam Levin, for screwing with his money.

Pissed off about the whole house thing, Christina Fulton is now suing Nicolas Cage for a hefty $13 million. Fulton claims she was forced to give up her acting career to care for the former couple’s son and suffered “mental, physical and emotional abuse” at Cage’s hands. The suit does not include any details about such alleged abuse.

There is one thing Cage and Fulton do have in common. Fulton is also reportedly suing Cage’s former business manager, Sam Levin, for negligence which she claims caused her to owe more than $1 million in debt to the IRS.

Cage’s lawyer says the lawsuit from Fulton is “ridiculous and absurd.” In a press statement, he said “Nicholas has given her approximately $3 million every year for many years, even though he was only obligated to pay her $6,000-a-month in child support. We expect this lawsuit to be promptly thrown out.”

Rumor has it actor Nicolas Cage is broke and bankrupt, owing millions in debt. Truth is, Cage isn’t broke and probably isn’t about to declare bankruptcy, but he is in some serious financial trouble.

According to reports, two of the actor’s homes will be going on the auction block in New Orleans. Nicolas Cage reportedly owes over $5 million in unpaid mortgage debt on the two properties. Cage will also reportedly be selling his grand estate in Southern Nevada near Las Vegas and several other properties. Even worse, Nicolas Cage allegedly owes over $6 million in back taxes to the IRS all the way back to 2002.

Cage claims his former business manager, Samuel Levin, led him “down a path toward financial ruin.” The Academy Award winning actor is currently suing Levin over the alleged financial mismanagement.

“Levin placed Cage in numerous highly speculative and risky real estate investments, resulting in Cage suffering catastrophic losses,” the lawsuit states. “He is now forced to sell major assets and investments at a significant loss and is faced with huge tax liabilities because of Levin’s incompetence, misrepresentations and recklessness.”

Cage reportedly has a net worth of $38 million according to Forbes magazine and earned $40 million between June, 2008 and June, 2009. Just goes to show being rich and famous doesn’t mean you can’t be an idiot with money.
