Type O Negative lead singer and bassist Peter Steele is dead at the age of 48. Steele is reportedly believed to have died of heart failure, although no official cause of death has yet been determined.
Type O Negative keyboardest Josh Silver confirmed the death of Peter Steele on the official blog of their former label, Roadrunner Records. Friend Juliya Chernetsky from Fuse TV also confirmed the sad news. “Peter Steele passed today. I loved my friend… our idol… my heart is with his band and family,†Chernetsky said.
Before fronting goth-metal band Type O Negative, Peter Steele played in New York’s hardcore band Carnivore. The band broke up after releasing two albums.
Strangely enough, Peter Steele was reported dead back in 2005 when a faked image of his tombstone was posted to the band’s website, but sadly this time it seems the news of his death is indeed true.
