Prince Albert of Monaco Engaged to Olympic Swimmer Charlene Wittstock

Prince Albert of Monaco, long considered one of the world’s most eligible bachelors, is finally ready to settle down. Prince Albert, 52, announced his engagement on Wednesday to former South African Olympic swimmer Charlene Wittstock.

Prince Albert (Albert Alexandre Louis Pierre Grimaldi), son of American actress Grace Kelly, is also a former Olympian. He competed in five winter Olympic games as a bobsledder before retiring and joining the International Olympic Committee.

Prince Albert has admitted he is the father to two children out of wedlock, a son by a flight attendant, Alexandre Éric Stéphane Coste, and a daughter who lives in the U.S., Jazmin Grace Grimaldi. Since both of the children are illegitimate, neither can inherit the throne of Monaco. At only 32-years-old, Charlene Wittstock could potentially produce a legitimate heir.

Prince Albert and Wittstock reportedly met in 2000, while she was competing in a swimming tournament in Monaco.

The wedding between Prince Albert and Charlene Wittstock is not expected to take place for at least six months. No wedding date has yet been announced.
