Pregnant Kate Middleton has finally given birth and a new baby boy has been added to the royal family! Prince William and Kate Middleton rushed to St. Mary’s hospital in London on Monday morning after the Duchess of Cambridge went into labor.

After what was described by a royal spokesperson as a ‘normal progression of labor,’ Kate Middleton gave birth to a new British prince at 4:24 p.m. local London time.

The royal palace issues a press statement this afternoon releasing the barest details of the royal baby’s birth. “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4:24 p.m.,” the statement said. “The baby weighs 8lbs 6oz.”

Pregnant Kate Middleton was rushed off to St. Mary’s Hospital on Monday morning to give birth to the newest heir to the British throne. Due to a new change in the royal rules of succession, it didn’t matter whether the Kate Middleton baby was a boy or a girl — either one would qualify to be the third in line to the British throne.

The Duchess of Cambridge reportedly went into labor in the early hours of the morning on July 22, 2013. Accompanied by her husband, Prince William, pregnant Kate Middleton was quickly bustled off to St. Mary’s in London to prepare for the coming of the couple’s first royal baby.

There had been some concerns that Prince William might be late to the birth because of his duties as a Royal Air Force helicopter rescue pilot. Luckily, however, everything worked out perfectly for Prince William and wife Kate Middleton — who were finally married in 2011 — and he was by her side as she entered the hospital.
