Live! with Regis and Kelly host Regis Philbin has announced the date of his final episode. Regis Philbin, who turned 80 last month, will host his final Live! with Regis and Kelly show on Friday, November 18.
Tuesday morning on Live! with Regis and Kelly, Philburn smiled as he announced his official retirement date from the show. He said not to worry though because “the show goes on.”
Regis Philbin announced he would be leaving Live! with Regis and Kelly in January after co-hosting for almost 28 years. “There is a time that everything must come to an end for certain people on camera, especially certain old people,†Philbin joked as he announced his retirement date. “Last January I made the announcement that I’ll be moving on. But I never gave you an exact date. So I’m pushing it back five years. Just kidding.â€
So far the replacement for Regis Philbin still remains a mystery. “Kelly [Ripa] will be trying out new co-hosts, just like we did 11 years ago when we found her,†Philbin said, joking that she would probably be looking for a “new, young, hot” male co-host. Ripa launched back that she would just be looking for someone “alive and breathing.” Ripa joined Live! in 2001 after the exit of Kathie Lee Gifford.
Regis Philbin said some of the time on the show until his official retirement from the show would be devoted to “favorite moments” of the past 28 years he served as co-host.
