It seemed like a foregone conclusion who would win in the Spain vs Switzerland World Cup match on Wednesday. Until a goal from Swiss player Gelson Gernandes landed in a net left empty by Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

The goal from Gelson Gernandes in the 52nd minute of the game proved to be the only one scored during the entire Spain vs Switzerland match at the FIFA World Cup on Wednesday. As a result, Switzerland ended up with a shocking upset victory over Spain – the heavy favorite to win going into the match.
“To be fair, I’m not used to scoring goals, so I was a bit surprised,” Gelson Gernandes told reporters after the game. “It was a bit of luck.”
Spain held onto the ball during a majority 63 percent of the game and made 24 shots, but just could not get past the Swiss defenses. The loss to Switzerland puts an end to Spain’s 12-game winning streak.
Switzerland will face off against Chile on Monday, while Spain will go up against Honduras later the same day.
