Star magazine admits Katie Holmes is not an addict

If you’re a tabloid, you’d better be careful about your fact-checking, and even more careful about baseless insinuations.  That’s the lesson the Star gossip magazine learned recently after having to settle a $50 million defamation lawsuit with Katie Holmes, after they strongly implied that Holmes wanted to leave Tom Cruise, but couldn’t because of a drug addiction.

In the most recent issue of Star, the editors issued a formal apology to Holmes, adding that they would make a significant donation to a charity in her name as a way to make amends.  Katie, ever gracious, has accepted the apology, and added that she was glad they resolved the matter amicably.

Jon Gosselin Dating Star Reporter Kate Major?

“Jon & Kate Plus 8” star Jon Gosselin has certainly been getting around since the announcement he would be divorcing from wife Kate Gosselin. First came the reports that Jon Gosselin had hooked up with 22-year-old gal pal Hailey Glassman – the daughter of Kate Gosselin’s plastic surgeon. Now it seems Jon may have already moved on to a new flame, 26-year-old Star Magazine reporter Kate Major.

If the reports are true, at least he won’t have to worry about calling out the wrong name in the bedroom.

Star Magazine reporter Kate Major and Jon Gosselin were allegedly seen canoodling in Southampton this week, according to the New York Daily News. Major has reportedly confirmed that the two are dating, saying in a statement to the press that she “didn’t mean it to happen; it just did… I went to do a story on Jon and ended up falling for him.”

“Real Housewives” star Jill Zarin told People.com that Gosselin and Major were definitely an item. Zarin, along with husband Bobby Zarin, Michael Lohan (yes, that Michael Lohan) and Southampton Major Mark Epely visited with the alleged couple during their stay. “They weren’t all over each other,” Zarin said. “But they’re definitely dating. It came up in conversation.”

So what happened to Jon’s ‘girlfriend’ Hailey Glassman? Apparently she’s just so five minutes ago. She may have called her relationship with Jon “perfect” just days ago, but now we’re betting she’s singing a different tune.

* Update! – According to a statement by Star Magazine on Thursday morning, Kate Major is leaving her job at the tabloid. “Star Senior Reporter Kate Major resigned this morning, Thursday, July 23, citing a conflict of interest between her reporting duties for the magazine and her relationship with Jon Gosselin,” the press release stated.
