“The Colbert Report” shut down this week led to crazed speculation about why Comedy Central star Stephen Colbert halted production on his wildly popular show. Despite rumors the show was about to jump ship to another network, or that Colbert’s political Super PAC was somehow involved, the simple explanation is that the comedian took some time off to spend with his sick mother.

Comedy Central announced a temporary shut down of production of “The Colbert Report” on Wednesday. “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the show will air repeat episodes on Wednesday, February 15 and Thursday, February 16,” network spokesman Steve Albani said in a press statement.

The Colbert Report shut down for Stephen Colbert family emergency

“The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central has reportedly been shut down suddenly due to a Stephen Colbert family emergency. The network announced taping of “The Colbert Report” for February 15 and 16 had been cancelled and the episodes would be replaced with repeats.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, the show will air repeat episodes on Wednesday, February 15 and Thursday, February 16,” network spokesman Steve Albani said in a press statement. The shut down very sudden, as fans holding tickets for the taping sessions were reportedly only notified of the cancellations until Wednesday.
