Musician Bret Michaels, who has had diabetes since the age of six, is joining the American Diabetes Association as their poster boy for the disease. Â Their newest awareness campaign, Stop Diabetes, is a series of public service announcements that will feature Michaels as the “Face of Diabetes.” Â The hope is that Michaels’ celebrity will get people to stop seeing diabetes as a disease that only afflicts the fat and lazy, and realize that even heavy metal has-beens who have turned to reality TV can be diabetic. Â This is actually a really good message, as millions of people have diabetes and don’t even suspect they have it, and it kills nearly a quarter of a million Americans every year.
