When Boyle encountered some vocal problems in the middle of her song, she simply stopped singing and asked if she could start again.  Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepard helped salvage the situation, but it was still incredibly awkward.  At least she proved she does her own live singing!

Susan is the first woman ever to achieve this accomplishment, and The Beatles and The Monkees were the only two previous artists to have done so.  Understandably, Susan says she’s thrilled to see her second album doing as well as the first, especially since reality TV singers tend to have incredibly intense and short careers.  To even have a second album is an accomplishment; for it to go number one in two countries at once is absolutely astonishing.

Unfortunately for Boyle, she did not have a back-up song prepared, and since everyone is sick to death of hearing her sing “I Dreamed a Dream,” the producers elected to scrap the performance altogether.  I’m not sure how smart a decision that was, seeing as Boyle’s 15 minutes of fame are just about up, and if she wants to stay in the public eye, she needs to, well, stay in the public eye.

Susan Boyle was reportedly returning home from a recording session in London for American Idol judge Simon Cowell‘s Haiti relief single. When she arrived at her home in Blackburn, Scotland, she discovered a male intruder was inside her house. When the man saw Boyle, he reportedly fled past her and ran away.

“Lothian and Borders Police were called to an address in Blackburn at around 9:50 PM yesterday following reports of a disturbance,” a police report said. According to the BBC, a 16-year-old boy was questioned and released by police in connection to the break-in. Boyle still lives in her childhood home, despite earning millions from record sales and public appearances. Unfortunately, this means would-be stalkers and burglars have no trouble finding her location easily.

A rep for Susan Boyle, who rose to International fame after her audition on Britain’s Got Talent, said the singer was “shocked but unharmed.” Boyle told reporters outside her home, “I’m fine. It’s in the hands of the police now.”

Police are still investigating the incident and are asking the public for any information they may have. “Anyone who was in or around Yule Terrace at the time of the incident and saw or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police immediately,” police officials said in a press statement.

We’re just glad Susan wasn’t harmed, although we’re sure she’s probably quite shaken up by having a strange man break into her house!

Susan Boyle also topped the British album sales charts earlier this week. Boyle’s album sold a record-setting 701,000 copies sold, even beating out American Idol alumni Adam Lambert‘s debut album, which came in at number three. Andrea Bocelli‘s My Christmas took the number two spot.

I Dreamed a Dream slugged out Eminem‘s previous record sales this year for Relapse, making it the biggest debut album of 2009 by far.

In a week that featured new albums by Lambert, Rihanna and Lady Gaga, pulling the number one spot is quite a coup for Susan Boyle.

Susan Boyle became an internet sensation after her audition for Britain’s Got Talent, eventually going on to win second place in the competition. But despite not taking home the win, Boyle has since become a worldwide phenomenon.

Boyle previously made an appearance on the America’s Got Talent finale in September, singing “Wild Horses,” a song off her forthcoming album.

Boyle’s brother, John Boyle, says his sister is excited to perform on Dancing with the Stars. “She loves America and loves the people,” Boyle told People. “She appreciates their honesty.”

Susan Boyle is also reportedly finally starting to let loose and enjoy her success a bit. A notorious penny-pincher, Boyle reportedly relaxed her budget enough to buy some new furniture for her house in Blackburn, Scotland, including a new sofa and refrigerator.

It’s okay Susan, we think it’s probably okay to let yourself go ahead and spruce up the old homestead a bit. We’re pretty sure that new album of yours will provide you with a bit of extra pocket money to throw around.

Boyle, who has undergone a glam makeover from her initial appearance on last season’s “Britain’s Got Talent,” told Vieira that anyone faced with sudden stardom probably “finds it really hard to get a head around it.”

Susan Boyle became an international sensation overnight after her first appearance on “Britain’s Got Talent,” blowing the judges away with a rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Misérables. Almost instantly, her previously mundane life became a tabloid sensation and paparazzi were camped at her doorstep night and day.

Videos of Boyle’s performances nabbed over 100 million views on the Internet within weeks of her audition on the show. Although Boyle only ended up taking second place on “Britain’s Got Talent,” by that point the prize hardly mattered. She was already a bona fide celebrity.

The massive public interest in her life ended up being more than Boyle could handle initially. After the show ended, she checked herself into a clinic for a few days – sparking rumors about her mental condition. Boyle told Meredith Vieira in her “Today Show” interview that it “was pretty much necessary at the time. I needed a rest, just to get away.”

Now, however, Boyle is ready to eat up whatever her newfound fame serves up. Finally, she has realized her dream of being a famous singer and she has no desire to go back to obscurity. “I don’t want it to end,” Boyle told Vieira. “It’s just incredible.”

Boyle is currently recording her debut album, tentatively scheduled for release later this year.
