Dr. Seuss The Lorax weekend box office win breaks records

“Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax” weekend box office totals are breaking records, with a shocking $70 million in estimated ticket sales. Smashing past all expectations for the Universal Pictures animated film, “The Lorax” pulled off the biggest opening weekend of the year so far.

Starring the voices of Danny DeVito, Taylor Swift, Ed Helms and Zac Efron, “The Lorax” movie averaged a whopping $18,965 per screen in 3,729 theaters across the country. The environmentally themed film not only had the best opening weekend of the year, it also landed the largest opening ever for a non-sequel animated film. That record previously belonged to Pixar’s “The Incredibles,” which took the trophy back in 2004.
