Tiger Woods apologized to his wife, family, friends and fans in a public statement issued during a press conference Friday morning. Woods admitted he had multiple affairs and said he would be undergoing “more treatment and more therapy” to deal with his issues. Considering the enormous hype leading up to the press conference, Tiger Woods’ public statement was rather anticlimactic.
“I want to say to each of you simply and directly: I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible, selfish behavior,” Tiger Woods said in his public statement at the TPC Sawgrass golf course in Florida. “I know people want to find out how I could be so selfish and so foolish. People want to know how I could have done these things to my wife Elin and to my children. And while I have always tried to be a private person, there are some things I want to say.”
“Elin and I have started the process of discussing the damage caused by my behavior,” Woods said of his relationship with his wife. “My real apology will not come in the form of words, but my behavior over time. We have a lot to discuss. What we say to each other will remain between the two of us.”
“The issue involved here was my repeated irresponsible behavior,” Woods said. “I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated. What I did is not acceptable – and I am the only person to blame… I knew my actions were wrong, but I convinced myself that normal rules didn’t apply… I thought I could get away with whatever I wanted to. I felt that I had worked hard my entire life and deserved to enjoy all the temptations around me.”
Tiger Woods did not reveal any new information during the press conference, although he did confirm he spent a month in rehab at a sexual addiction clinic undergoing therapy. Woods said he plans to undergo “more therapy and more treatment” to deal with his issues.
Woods did not take any questions from the press and said any discussion of his affairs was strictly between him and his wife, Elin Nordegren. Woods expressed anger toward the media for hounding his family and accused some tabloids of making up stories about him and his wife. In specific, Woods said Elin Nordegren did not hit him on the night of his bizarre Thanksgiving crash and there had never been any instances of domestic violence between them.

While he does “plan to return to golf one day,” Woods said he does not know when that will be, although he did not rule out a return later this year.
