Tina Fey says Sarah Palin impersonation backfired

You might have thought that Tina Fey‘s impersonation of Sarah Palin would have brought her show 30 Rock nothing but positive attention, but Fey seems to think that exactly the opposite is true.  In her new book, Bossypants, Fey says she believes that by poking fun at the Palin family, she actually hurt 30 Rock’s chances of becoming more successful.

Fey says (obviously half-joking) that the show’s ratings have always been pretty low, and that any growth it might have received over time was very likely tempered by the anger of those who resented her for exploiting the Palin family.  Fey also said in a recent interview that she’s looking forward to Julianne Moore’s portrayal of Palin for HBO, and she offered Moore her Palin wig for the part.

Tina Fey wins humor prize

Finally there’s some justice in the universe – Tina Fey, SNL veteran and star of 30 Rock, was awarding the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center last night.  That Fey is still so young and has had a relatively short career is a testament to her comedic genius, as most humorists and comedians who receive this prestigious award have been in the business for many decades, and are usually closer to 80 than 40.

The event last night was attended by the cream of Hollywood comedy – Steve Martin and Betty White were both there, as well as Fey’s former SNL colleagues Jimmy Fallon, Amy Poehler, and show creator Lorne Michaels.

Date Night Woos the Weekend Box Office

Date Night topped the weekend box office despite mixed reviews of the Tina Fey and Steve Carell starring romantic comedy. Date Night earned just over $27 million over the weekend, knocking previous box office champion Clash of the Titans to the number two spot.

Personally, we’re happy to see Clash of the Titans lose the crown in the weekend box office. The cheesy remake is an all around disaster and apparently audiences seem to agree. Date Night, on the other hand, is a relatively witty and fun romantic comedy. Plus, who isn’t just amused as hell at seeing Tina Fey and Steve Carell teamed up on the big screen?

How to Train Your Dragon placed third at the box office with $25.4 million, earning $256 million worldwide since the film’s release. Rounding out the top five was Tyler Perry‘s Why Did I Get Married Too? and the Miley Cyrus yawn The Last Song.

Considering how much audiences lately seem to adore ridiculous comedy movies, we’re betting on a top three debut for the comic book-themed movie Kick-Ass in the next weekend box office totals.
