The Voice season 3 battle rounds begin tonight on NBC! The Voice 2012 coaches Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will be judging their team members tonight as they go head to head in dueling duets. One singer will win and go forward in the competition. The other will lose… but won’t automatically go home. For the first time ever on The Voice season 3, the coaches will have the chance to ‘steal’ an eliminated contestant and add them to their own team. Who will have the unfortunate dishonor of being the first person who was eliminated on The Voice season 3 and then didn’t get a second chance ‘steal’ save? Whoever it is, I really, really would not want to be them…

The Voice 2012 auditions came to a close last week with the coaches choosing an astounding 16 singers each for their teams. Those 64 hopefuls will be beaten down to The Voice season 3 Top 40 during the battle rounds. Each coach will put up their team members in pairs to fight it out head to head in a dueling duet.
The winning contestant will move on, but the losing contestant will not automatically be the one who went home on The Voice 2012 this season. Instead, the other coaches will get the chance to ‘steal’ the best eliminated contestants for their teams. This way, we will hopefully see more of the really good singers get to the end, rather than a few terrific ones and a host of mediocre performers.
In the end, each coach will have eight original team members remaining and two team members ‘stolen’ from the other coaches’ eliminated singers.
The Voice season 3 continues tonight at 8PM on NBC and we hear it is going to be one hell of a show! Join us for our The Voice 2012 recap live right here as the battle begins!
Let’s welcome the coaches/judges and the mentors for the kick off of The Voice 2012 battle rounds this evening: Team Adam Levine with mentor Mary J. Blige; Team Blake Shelton with mentor Michael Buble; Team Cee Lo Green with mentor Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20; Team Christina Aguilera with mentor Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day.
The first duet match-up of the evening comes to us from Team Blake Shelton with Terry McDermott and Casey Muessingman performing “Carry On My Wayward Son” by Kansas.
Judges: Cee Lo says Terry is rocking cool. Blake says Casey just doesn’t back down from a challenge. Adam says he just is more comfortable with Casey because he relates better to country singers. Christina says she thought both performances were great. Blake finally decides he is going to keep Terry because he is just more comfortable with his voice.
Steal: The first steal comes into play as Casey Muessingman is now available. Unfortunately, none of the other coaches decide to pick him for their team.
Next up is Bryan Keith and Collin McLoughlin of Team Adam singing “Santeria” by Sublime.
Judges: Cee Lo says he likes Bryan’s approach to the song better. Christina agrees that Bryan was better and she liked his raspy voice. Personally I think the song choice just wasn’t great for either of them, although it was better for Bryan. Blake says Bryan was a bit pitchy. Adam Levine decides he is going to go with keeping Bryan.
Steal: Bryan Keith is now available and both Cee Lo and Blake go for the steal. Bryan decides he would like to join Team Blake.
YouTube star J.R. Aquino is now up on stage to face off against Diego Val for Team Cee Lo. They are performing “Jessie’s Girl” by Rick Springfield.
Judges: Adam thought Diego did well on the high notes. Blake thought JR was the better one. Christina like JR too but thinks Diego finished stronger. Christina says she likes how Diego really came alive at the end of the song. Cee Lo decides to choose Diego over J.R. because he thinks he can do something more with him and he has a lot of growing room.
Steal: Sadly, no one choses to pick up J.R. Aquino in the steal and he is sent home.
Up first on Team Christina Aguilera are De’Borah and Nelly’s Echo competing on “Message In A Bottle” by The Police.
Judges: I’m not liking this song one bit, but the judges seem to like it better than I do. I don’t think either of them did all that well. Cee Lo Says Nelly’s Echo did great, but he liked De’Borah’s soul and thinks she took it. Adam says Nelly had some pitch issues but he liked the vibe they had together. Blake says he has to give it to De’Borah for her energy on stage. Christina says she loves the heart they both had, but she has to give it to De’Borah, who reminds her a bit of Lauryn Hill.
Steal: Nelly’s Echo is now up for grabs, but unfortunately no one decides to steal him for their team.
Now we are back with Team Blake and a duet between Gracia Harrison and 2Steel Girls. Okay, well, that’s more of a trio than a duet really I guess. They are performing “Sin Wagon” by Dixie Chicks.
Judges: Christina says she liked Gracia more, she loved her attitude and says she had more playfulness in the song. Cee Lo thought it was a pretty equal battle but he likes the mother-daughter duo package. Adam doesn’t seem to care either way. Blake praises all three of them for the country battle throwdown, but in the end he decides to go with Gracia. I agree with that one totally.
Steal: 2Steel Girls are now available to steal, but sadly for the duo, no one wants them. They head home in tears. Adam says he kind of wish Blake had been stupid and eliminated Gracia so he could steal her.
Next up we have Trevin Hunte and Amanda Brown of Team Cee Lo performing “Vision of Love” by Mariah Carey. From the previews, this looks like it may be the duet of the night.
Judges: The judges adore them both and no way either of these two are going home tonight. Adam says it doesn’t matter who Cee Lo picks, he is going to try to steal the person who gets eliminated. Christina says it was the best performance of the battle rounds so far. Cee Lo says he wants to be part of Trevin’s journey and decides to pick him.
Steal: Amanda is put up for the steal and all three of the other coaches try to take her. Adam says he holds her in very high regard, which is a rare thing for him. He compares Amanda to Aretha Franklin and Mariah Carey. Christina says she is the one who would best be able to make her a superstar. She says she was blow away by Amanda’s talent. Blake says she was born to sing and is the total package. Amanda decides to join Team Adam to go ‘out of the box’ a bit. He smirks and says he knows how to steal, he is a good thief.
That wraps up the first battle round. Here is how the teams now stand after this evening’s results:
- Adam Levine: Loren Allred, Benji, Michelle Brooks-Thompson, Adanna Duru, Alessandra Guercio, Sam James, Bryan Keith, Joe Kirkland, Brandon Mahone, Melanie Martinez, Caitlin Michele, Samuel Mouton, Nicole Nelson, Kayla Nevarez, Brian Scartocci, Amanda Brown

I’m confused … you said Bryan won but that he was available and chose Blake?
They missed ot big time two steal girls are great
Amanda is a centuos voice,beautiful
No JR Aquino went home in that battle.
Has anyone thought about what happens with the rest of the battles when all the steals are gone? At this rate, the steals will be gone by the time the last battles come around. I think they should have given the judges more than 2 steals each.
I loved Trevin and Amanda both so much! That battle was amazing. I’m so glad they have the steal rule this season because honestly, this whole season could come down to the two of them. I’m really happy I didn’t have to miss this episode. I work late during the week at my job at DISH, so I have my Hopper all set up to record it for me. I turned it on as soon as I got home. It felt so good to be back in the loop with my favorite show again!
