The Voice 2012 Live Season 3 Recap: Episode 16 – The Knockouts Part 1 (VIDEO)

The Voice 2012 season 3 continues tonight even though millions of Americans probably won’t be able to see it due to power outages. Hurricane Sandy is currently battering the northeast coast line, causing several TV networks to reschedule programming. The Voice season 3, however, will reportedly go on as planned. While lower Manhattan floods, The Voice 2012 judges Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton will be crushing the dreams of hopeful singers during the first instant eliminations of the season. So if you aren’t glued to the Weather Channel or CNN watching Hurricane Sandy news, join us here for our live The Voice 2012 season 3 recap of the first knockout round instant elimination results!

WARNING: THE VOICE 2012 SEASON 3 SPOILERS AHEAD!

This post contains The Voice 2012 season 3 spoilers from the first knockout round. Please stop reading here if you do not want to know what happened or who went home on The Voice season 3 instant eliminations tonight!

On The Voice 2012 season 3 tonight, the members of Team Adam Levine and Team Cee Lo Green will be battling it out in the first knockout round. In The Voice season 3 knockout round, the teams will be dramatically cut from 10 singers each down to just five in a series of instant eliminations.

In the knockout round, team members will go head to head against their fellow teammates. Each contestant will sing a song of their own choosing that will hopefully show off their talent in the best way possible. They will not know who they are going up against until right before they go on stage.

The Voice 2012 judges will evaluate the singers not only based on how they sound, but what song they chose, how well it suited them and if they commanded the stage during their performance.

Who went home in The Voice instant eliminations for season 3 this week? Who was eliminated on The Voice 2012 and hopefully isn’t about to have to head home in the midst of Hurricane Sandy’s aftermath? Find out with us here in our live The Voice 2012 season 3 recap at 8PM ET!

Team Adam Levine

First up tonight is Team Adam with Joselyn Rivera versus Kayla Nevarez. Joselyn was given a second chance to shine after Adam Levine stole her from Christina Aquilera when she was cut from her team in the last round.

Joselyn Rivera – “Love on Top” by Beyonce

Kayla Nevarez – “Shark in the Water” by V. V. Brown

Judges: Blake thinks Joselyn was a bigger risk taker and took more chances, but not everything she tried paid off in the end. All the coaches are unanimous, however, that Joselyn did the better job with her song. Blake thinks Joselyn just worked it harder because she was more ambitious with her song choice.

Winner: Joselyn Rivera

Eliminated: Kayla Nevarez

Next from Team Adam is Joe Kirkland versus Bryan Keith. I think this one is kind of a given for Bryan Keith even before they hit the stage.

Joe Kirkland – “Mean” by Taylor Swift

Bryan Keith – “Everything I Do” by Bryan Adams

Judges: Joe has the charisma, and Christina thinks he has beautiful eyes… but Bryan has the pipes, according to the evaluations from the judges. Christina though Joe reminded her a bit f Billie Joe Armstrong. Cee Lo realli liked Bryan’s “working man” side. Adam says he thinks that Joe really hit it hard, but in the end he has to give it to Bryan.

Winner: Bryan Keith

Eliminated: Joe Kirkland

Now we have Amanda Brown and Michelle Brooks-Thompson with two powerhouse voices battling it out to impress Adam. Amanda is another stolen singer and Adam is loving on her a lot.

Amanda Brown – “Paris (Ooh La La)” by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

Michelle Brooks-Thompson – “Spotlight” by Jennifer Hudson

Judges: Although it seems obvious, to me at least, that Amanda won this battle hands down, all the judges seem to be telling Adam that Michelle was the better performer. Adam doesn’t buy it either and he clearly knows that Amanda is the stronger singer.

Winner: Amanda Brown

Eliminated: Michelle Brooks-Thompson

Continuing on with Adam’s team, we have Loren Allred versus Nicole Nelson. Adam seems to have heavy leanings toward Nicole as his favorite in this knockout.

Loren Allred – “You Know I’m No Good” by Amy Winehouse

Nicole Nelson – “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys

Judges: Although I personally think Nicole took this battle, the judges don’t agree with me at all. Everyone is loving on Loren Allred’s performance and Blake thinks she just had her star moment on the show. Adam says he initially had decided to pick Nicole before they even sang, but apparently Loren got under his skin with this performance.

Winner: Loren Allred – Possibly the biggest surprise of the night here.

Eliminated: Nicole Nelson

Going in front of the judges now is the last pair from Team Adam, Melanie Martinez versus Sam James. I’m personally rooting for the quirky Melanie Martinez. I don’t care how weird she looks, I have her version of “Toxic” by Britney Spears at the top of my current playlist.

Melanie Martinez – “Bulletproof” by La Roux

Sam James – “Walking In Memphis” by Marc Cohn

Judges: Melanie doesn’t knock this one of of the park, but I think it is clear she is a better vocalist than Sam. The judges aren’t sure though, they don’t seem to think either is all that bad or all that fabulous. After due consideration, Adam decides he is apparently all about the ladies this evening.

Winner: Melanie Martinez

Eliminated: Sam James

Now we have Mackenzie Bourg versus Daniel Rosa. I love Daniel, I do, but I’m thinking this is the round he is going to go out. He has been a great story, but his vocals are not really that strong.

Mackenzie Bourg – “Call me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen

Daniel Rosa – “Back to December” by Taylor Swift

Judges: Adam really likes Daniel on this song and thinks he did a great job. He just loves Daniel. Christina thought Mackenzie was the better performer though and that’s just the truth. Daniel sounded perhaps his best tonight, but it just wasn’t good enough.

Winner: Mackenzie Bourg

Eliminated: Daniel Rosa

The next on stage are Terisa Griffin and Trevin Hunte and this is a painful choice even before they start singing. Both are really terrific.

Terisa Griffin – “Saving All My Love for You” by Whitney Houston

Trevin Hunte – “Against All Odds” by Phil Collins

Judges: Both great song choices and the judges are feeling torn about this one and I can see why. Christina says she wishes she could be a coach for Trevn though, because he’s really just that fantastic. Cee Lo seems to agree. It is just sad no matter which one goes home.

Winner: Treven Hunte

Eliminated: Terisa Griffin

Too bad one of the next two wasn’t paired up against Trevin Hunte instead of Terisa Griffin. I’m not liking either Mycle Wastman or Nicholas David all that much really. Terisa was a better singer and performer than either, in my opinion.

Mycle Wastman – “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me” by Elton John

Nicholas David – “Put Your Records On” by Corinne Bailey Rae

Judges: None of the judges seem all that enthusiastic about either of the singers and it is a split about who was better. Cee Lo doesn’t really seem to care all that much either but just picks the guy he seems to like better.

Winner: Nicholas David

Eliminated: Mycle Wastman

The last two of the night from Team Cee Lo are Caitlin Michele and Diego Val. This is kind of an interesting battle and I like both of them for different reasons. Personally I think Diego is slightly less gifted in the vocals.

Caitlin Michele – “Bring Me to Live” by Evanescence

Diego Val – “Are You Gonna Go My Way” by Lenny Kravitz

Judges: Christina thinks Caitlin sounded way too much like the original version. None of the judges are really loving on either performer. Cee Lo doesn’t think either one did a really great job. Toss the dice and the final performer moving on is…

Winner: Diego Val

Eliminated: Caitlin Michele

That is five guys for Cee Lo versus four girls for Adam. Interesting.

  1. I cannot believe Theresa was eliminated by Ceelo. I think she’s the best singer on this Season. I hope she gets a record deal because I will buy anything she sings!
