The Voice season 3 premiere is finally here and I can’t wait to see the new batch of singers competing to become America’s new favorite performers. Coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera will also be competing tonight to secure the best singers of the night for their teams.
However, unlike previous seasons, this year on The Voice 2012 season 3, the coaches may not get to hold on to their strongest singers. This time around we have a new twist with ‘battle rounds’ where coaches can actually steal contestants from the losing coaches’ teams. I can’t wait to see some future Christina Aguilera/Adam Levine smackdowns coming soon over that twist, I’m sure!
We will also have new guest advisers on The Voice season 3 during the battle rounds: Billy Joe Armstrong, Michael Buble, Rob Thomas and Mary J. Blige. There will also be a new “knockout” round that will cut down the number of contestants on each coach’s team.
The Voice 2012 season 3 premiere stretches out over three nights from Monday through Wednesday this week and we’ll be here recapping each episode for you live as they happen. So let’s get on with it and start our The Voice season 3 recap right now!
WARNING: THE VOICE 2012 SEASON 3 SPOILERS AHEAD!
This post contains Bachelor Pad 2012 spoilers from the Bachelor Pad 3 finale. Please stop reading here if you do not want to know what happened!
The Voice season 3 premiere opens with all the judges/coaches singing a rocking rendition of the Rolling Stones “Start It Up” — an awesome way to launch the first show of the new season.
The first contestant up is Scottish rocker Terry Mcdermott singing “Baba O’Riley”. He is a sensation right off the bat and he soon has Blake Shelton pressing the spin button, followed closely by Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green. Christina Aguilera abstains from pressing her button, but she tells him he has a great radio voice. Cee Lo says he is totally the real thing and Blake says this guy can win if he works it. Terry decides Blake’s mentoring is what he needs and chooses him as his coach.
Next up on stage is Chicago gospel singer De’Borah performing “Hey Soul Sister”. She manages to snag both Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera. Cee Lo tells her he is absolutely the best match for her quirky style. Christina says she can do a lot with De’Borah’s voice. Turns out De’Borah is a big Christina Aguilera fan for ages, so she decides to choose her as her coach.
Country singer and yodeler Gracia Harrison performs “I Wanna Be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart and she manages to land three judges: Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green. Christina Aguilera does not hit her button, but she thinks Gracia was amazing. Adam says she is the best country singer to ever be on the show and he wants her on his team! Cee Lo also says she is the best country singer they have had. Blake argues that he is the best coach for her style obviously and she needs to go with him. She agrees and ends up choosing Blake. Adam is not happy.
Now we have 16-year-old Garrett Gardner singing “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” but unfortunately he doesn’t get any judges to turn for him. Blake says he has an interesting sound, but his pitch control is off and he needs more experience.
West Texas girl Devon Deloera dares to sing a Christina Aguilera song, “Ain’t No Other Man,” and actually does a great job with it. Her bravery and voice inspire Christina to press her button, followed by Adam and Blake. Christina says she really wants to be her coach and loved her performance. Blake and Adam say some stuff too, but it’s obvious Devon wants Christina and chooses her.
The next contestant to sing is Bryan Keith, whose father is a Grammy-winning singer with the Spanish Harlem Quartet. Bryan Keith performs “It Will Rain” and the judges spin around so fast they almost leave their heads behind. He is the first to get all four judges to spin and they all make passionate pitches to get him on their team. They all pile on the praise but in the end Bryan decides to choose Adam Levine. Adam is stoked and thinks he just landed a winner!
Returning from last season’s auditions, Daniel Rosa performs “Somebody That I Use To Know” and spins Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton. Daniel is thrilled that this time he has made it through to the next round. Adam applauds him for not giving up. Daniel decides to go with Cee Lo as his coach and is glowing with happiness.
The next audition is from Berkley Music School graduate Anita Antoinette singing “No Women, No Cry” and it is a bomb. None of the judges hit their button, proving that going to school for something does not suddenly provide you with natural talent. They tell her she can try again next season after she sings the song again acapella but still fails to impress.
Now we have another Texas contestant, Joe Kirkland from Fort Worth singing “Gives You Hell”. He gets two judges, Blake and Adam, to push their buttons. Blake tells Joe he has star quality, but Joe decides he wants to go with Adam as his coach.
The next to the last contestant for the night is Jessica Sharpe from Greensboro, North Carolina singing one of those songs I am so, so sick of hearing on these talent reality TV shows, “Son of a Preacher Man”. She does not inspire any of the judges to turn around and Christina tells her there was just no magical moment. Blake tells her to give it another try next season.
The final singer of the night is Trevin Hunte from Queens, New York. Trevin does an awesome rendition of “Listen” and has Christina spinning in her chair from the first few notes, followed by Blake and Adam. Blake wants to know what the heck is wrong with Adam that he did not hit is button. Trevin, who they find out is just 18, wins a standing ovation from the judges. Cee Lo wants to know what planet he is from and Blake says he blew his mind with all that talent. Cee Lo says he could very well be the winner and Trevin decides to choose Cee Lo as his coach.

You posted De’borah’s twice, and missed Joe Kirkland!
Apologies on that, it has been fixed!
disappointed Todd Oliver and Irving didnt make it.
That was such a great premiere episode with the judges getting into the performing side of the competition too. I think that this show has the best judging system out of all of the singing reality shows. The performances were amazing too, especially Trevin’s. I was talking with a coworker, and she thought Trevin made himself a career last night. I would have to agree because he has a classic style that will never go out of fashion. I would have been so mad if I missed Trevin’s stunning performance and Cee Lo’s bird!
