The first night of The Voice season 3 premiere launches tonight on NBC. The three-part The Voice premiere will run Monday through Wednesday this week, going directly head to head with Simon Cowell‘s X Factor season 2 premiere on Wednesday.

In the special three-part The Voice 2012 season 3 premiere this week, judges/mentors Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will be competing for their favorite contestants from the blind auditions.

As the contestants sing in The Voice season 3 blind auditions, the judges/mentors will have their backs turned, so the singers can be judged purely on their talent alone and not their appearance. If a judge is interested, they hit a button and spin around to watch the singer in action. If more than one judge spins, then the contestant gets to choose which one they want as their coach.

Joining the judges on The Voice 2012 season 3 for the first time will be advisers Mary J. Blige, Billy Joe Armstrong, Michael Buble and Rob Thomas. There will also be a few other special tweaks to liven things up this year. The Voice season 3 coaches will have the chance to “steal” each other’s singers during “battle rounds.” There will also be the addition of a “knockout round” to cut down the contestants on each coach’s team.

The Voice 2012 season 3 premieres on NBC at 8 PM ET/PT on Monday and airs Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the same time this week before dropping to a Monday and Tuesday only schedule next week.
