The X Factor 2012 auditions are over and 120 chosen hopefuls are now facing the terrifying next phase of the competition: Boot Camp. If the singers thought The X Factor 2012 judges Britney Spears, Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato and L. A. Reid were critical before, they have no idea what kind of cruel and unusual punishment they are about to receive at their hands during Boot Camp.
WARNING: THE X FACTOR 2012 SEASON 2 SPOILERS AHEAD!
This post contains The X Factor 2012 season 2 spoilers from the premiere episode. Please stop reading here if you do not want to know what happened!
From what I’ve heard from The X Factor season 2 spoilers about the Boot Camp rounds, the contestants are about to learn just how incredibly brutal the music business can be. Some singers will barely get the chance to open their mouths before they will get shut down and cut from the competition. Favorites will be slammed and dismissed with a snarky comment and wave of the hand. Dreams will be crushed under the heels of The X Factor 2012 judges without a second thought.
The judges on X Factor 2012 will be pulling no punches this week during Boot Camp. Simon Cowell will cut the heart out of a contestant by telling them they are “one of the worst things I’ve ever heard in my life.” Britney Spears will make horrified faces at off-pitch singers and pinch out their hopes of fame between her perfectly manicured fingers. Forget your lyrics? Just stop, leave the stage and go get your bags. You’re done.

In Miami, 120 hopefuls are ready to take the stage again for The X Factor 2012 judges to decide if they will make it through to the next round. Round 1 of Boot Camp is here and it is going to be tough. First the contestants will have to perform solo tonight, then they will be paired up for duets that will be shown tomorrow night. Only 24 acts total will make it through to the Judges’ Houses round.
Contestant Willie Jones is shown back home with his dad and we have a montage of other familiar faces from the audition rounds, including Vino Alan, Jennel Garcia, Tara Simon and others.
The first contestant to be featured on stage for their solo is 13-year-old Diamond White performing “I Have Nothing Without You” by Whitney Houston. She does a very good job, even if there was a tiny touch of nerves in there. It is a good way to kick off Boot Camp, but there is a long way to go.
Paige Thomas is worried about Diamond and thinks she is strong competition. She need not worry about Diamond in the Boot Camp round because they should be in different groups. Later on in the competition though, she certainly could prove troublesome if they both make it that far.
The next performer up is Austin Corini with a rendition of “To Make You Feel My Love” originally by Bob Dylan. The performance is nice enough, but nothing thrilling.
Now up on stage is David Correy with “Mercy” and this is a good one. He sounds great and the judges are obviously liking it.
A montage of singers flies past, including Carly Rose Sonenclar, who L. A. Reid thinks is amazing and the best singer of her age he’s ever heard.
Jessica Espinoza is the nex singer to be featured. She does a good job, but she’s weaker than she was during auditions. She struggles a bit and sounds strained in places. The judges aren’t loving her as much this time and Demi Lovato is disappointed in the performance.
Jennel Garcia and Jillian Jensen talk about all the stress of Boot Camp and the nerves they have after sitting through so many good performances. Jennel Garcia manages to struggle through those nerves and do a lovely rendition of “Sweeter” by Gavin DeGraw.
Up next is Johnny Maxwell with “I’ll Be Missing You” by P. Diddy and Faith Evans. Sadly, he does a bad job of it. He forgets the lyrics and his nerves have defeated him on this song. It will be a miracle if he makes it through.
After Johnny, we have a montage of not-so-great performances, including Jake Garza, Jordyn Foley, Manny and the adorable Trevor Moran. People are crying and losing it all over the place.
Now we have the Emblem3 boy band. They are not as good as they were in their audition, but their performance is not terrible either. Considering the other groups in the competition, I think they will make it through this round.
Vocal coach Tara Simon takes a big risk with performing “Somebody to Love” by Queen. Doing Queen is always a risk. Thankfully, she does a great job of it with her huge pipes. Deep voiced country boy Willie Jones does a good job too, although he’s not amazing to me, but maybe that is just because I’m not a country fan. The judges are split on his performance.
CeCe Frey and Paige Thomas both do “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston. Paige Thomas goes first and does an admirable job, but she is blown away by CeCe Frey. This is probably the performance of the night. Awesome. She is one to beat indeed.
The solo round is now over and the judges have to decide who they are going to cut. The hopefuls are divided into three groups to find out their fates.
The first group to find out includes Paige Thomas, Diamond White, Jason Brock, Sophie Tweed-Simmons and Jennel Garcia. The judges announce they are… safe! The second group contains Jessica Espinosa, Rizzloe Jones and Jordyn Foley. The judges tell them they are… going home! The final group contains Freddie Combs, Tate Stevens, Nick Youngerman, Willie Jones and CeCe Frey. They would be crazy to send CeCe packing, so they all get the happy news they are all through to the next round.
