The X Factor Season 2 Live Recap: Top 6 Performances! (VIDEO)

The X Factor 2012 season 2 strangely feels like it just began a few, short weeks ago. Alas, this season is, in fact, nearly over already! The X Factor season 2 finale is just a couple of weeks away and we’re already down to just 6 singers left. While The X Factor USA judges Demi Lovato, Simon Cowell, L. A. Reid and Britney Spears are all still in the running at this point, it is almost guaranteed at least one of them will lose their last team member this week. Who will prove to the voters that they deserve to stay tonight? Ride along with us for our live The X Factor recap of the top 6 performance show and let’s find out!

WARNING: THE X FACTOR 2012 SPOILERS AHEAD!

This post containsThe X Factor USA spoilers from the top 6 live performance show. Please stop reading if you do not want to know what happened on The X Factor season 2 Wednesday night!

The X Factor finale for season 2 is racing toward us at rapid speed. It’s hard to believe we are already down to only six contestants left. Maybe it is just me, but this season has seemed to fly by! After The X Factor season 2 finale and The Voice season 3 finale coming up, it is going to be rather boring on television for a while until American Idol 2013 finally ramps up in January.

Last week on The X Factor USA, I was rather annoyed when Vino Alan was chosen to be sent home by the judges. Well, actually, I like Diamond White better than Vino, so that was okay. What irritated me was seeing Vino Alan in the bottom two last week after being in the top 3 repeatedly in previous weeks.

The person who SHOULD have gone home last week on The X Factor 2012 season 2 last week was CeCe Frey, especially after that horrible, cheesy, off-pitch performance she gave. I honestly think a lot of people are just voting for her to be snarky and skew the results. Or else America and I have radically different taste I guess! I am strongly hopeful that even voting for the worst will not push CeCe Frey to the next round this week.

Tonight on The X Factor season 2, the six remaining singers will each perform live twice for the first time this season. One of the songs will be the Pepsi Challenge song chosen by viewers from a short list for each contestant. The second song will be a so far unannounced ‘unplugged’ selection, which should hopefully help to separate the real talent from the wannabees this week in the eyes of the voters.

Here’s the current ranking of The X Factor season 2 top 6 singers based on the votes from last week’s results show:

1. Carly Rose Sonenclar (Team Britney)
2. Tate Stevens (Team L. A.)
3. Emblem3 (Team Simon)
4. Fifth Harmony (Team Simon)
5. CeCe Frey (Team Demi)
6. Diamond White (Team Britney)

RECAP: The top 6 contestants will each perform twice tonight for the first time on the live shows. Up first will be their ‘unplugged’ performances of an acoustic song.

‘Unplugged’ Songs:

CeCe Frey – “Edge of Glory” by Lady Gaga

Judges: The reaction from the judges is not fantastic after this incredibly mediocore performance. L. A. Reid kindly says he thinks the performance was pretty good and maybe she’s proven that they have it wrong. (Honestly, I just don’t think he sounds at all sincere.) Britney Spears tells it like it is and says it was not great and it needed to be. Simon Cowell says bluntly that CeCe Frey is just not worth a 5 million record contract.

Emblem3 – “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars

Judges: L. A. Reid praises Emblem3 while slamming Simon Cowell’s other group Fifth Harmony at the same time. He says at least one of Simon’s groups can sing in harmony! Britney Spears thought it was one of their best performances. Demi says it was just a lesser grade version of something the Jonas Brothers did five years ago. Ouch!

Carly Rose Sonenclar – “As Long As You Love Me” by Justin Bieber

Judges: Doing Justin Bieber is always risky. You don’t want to piss off his fan base, especially when they are the age group of YOUR primary fan base. Luckily for Carly, everyone seems to love it. L. A. Reid says the song was great and showed restraint. Demi says she thinks Carly sang it even better than Justin Bieber did. (Watch it Demi!) Simon says Carly is a star in the making.

Fifth Harmony – “Set Fire to the Rain” by Adele

Judges: This is not going to go well. L. A. Reid, harkening back to his earlier snarky comment about them, notes there was absolutely no harmony on the song. They all sang it as individuals, not as a group. He says they should have been called ‘Fifth Unison’. Britney just doesn’t get what makes them special. Demi thinks they simply don’t click together as a group but a couple of the girls would be great soloists. (They tried that Demi, y’all shot them down.) Even Simon isn’t so glowing about his created girl group this evening but says they deserve a chance to try to make it in the music biz.

Diamond White – “A Man’s World” by James Brown

Judges: Apparently Simon Cowell is as sick of hearing this song on reality TV shows as I am. He thinks the performance was off pitch and he really thinks Diamond should have chosen another song. L. A. Reid thought she brought attitude to the stage. Demi says it was a risky choice but she thinks Diamond pulled it off.

Tate Stevens – “Living On a Prayer” by Bon Jovi

Judges: The audience is loving on this performance by Tate Stevens but the judges seem not quite as happy about it. Britney thinks Tate is well on his way to being the next great country star but her praise is lackluster. Demi says Tate missed the high note in the song, but she is a fan and she’ll buy his albums. Simon says he wants to see Tate picking out his own songs. He thinks Tate doing this song for unplugged week is “like taking a goldfish for a walk”–which means, I guess, that it is impossible or stupid or likely to get PETA really mad at you, who knows with Simon.

Pepsi Challenge Songs:

CeCe Frey – “Part of Me” by Katy Perry

Judges: L. A. says he doesn’t know how to feel, it’s like a windshield wiper. One song he likes her, one song he doesn’t. Britney at least thought the song was entertaining (and that is saying a lot). Simon says she keeps trying and likes her attitude. That’s about it. Really, if this girl makes it through the elimination tomorrow, something is really wrong.

Emblem3 – “Forever Young” by Alphaville

Judges: L. A. is really loving this performance and thought it was great. Britney is all over these cute boys and thinks they were superstars tonight. Demi says it was better than their first performance of the night but they still need to learn how to work the stage better. Demi thinks they really need to move around more. Demi looks embarrassed and says nothing when Khloe Kardashian wants to know which of the boys she is crushing on. Simon, of course, thinks his boys are the ****.

Carly Rose Sonenclar – “If I was a Boy” by Beyonce

Judges: Could the judges love this girl any more? L. A. thinks it was awesome and knows Carly will never let him down with a performance. Demi says it was phenomenal although perhaps a bit predictable. She’d like to hear her do something more up tempo. Simon says not to listen to Demi one bit. Simon thinks it was incredible, of course, as he seems to be an even bigger fan of Carly than her own coach! Britney, naturally, thinks Carly was a little goddess up there.

Fifth Harmony – “Give Your Heart a Break” by Demi Lovato

Judges: L. A. is actually liking this one and thinks it is one of their best performances. He says he actually heard them singing harmony and it was very good. Britney thought it was a good performance as well. Demi is very kind about them performing her song and said it was great, although I don’t believe her when she says it was better than the original and should have been their song because she knows that is BS.

Diamond White – “Diamonds” by Rihanna

Judges: L. A. didn’t really think it was all that awesome. Demi thinks it was great though and she really did the song justice. Simon thinks the first half was not as good as the second half but she had a good night. Simon makes an interesting comment when he says Diamond is very lucky she is in a very competitive top 6, “or maybe I should say top 5.” Hmmmmm.

Tate Stevens – “If Tomorrow Never Comes” by Garth Brooks

Judges: Tomorrow on The X Factor will certainly come for this guy and next week as well. I’m sure. Once again the crowd is roaring for him. The judges are also in love. Britney says he was just amazing and this was really a Tate Stevens performance. Demi thinks he has a bright future ahead of him. She admits she did get a bit sleepy though, but she’s also really tired, she says. Simon says he thinks Tate actually reminds him of Garth Brooks and he is glad he’s made it so far in the competition.
