Gorgeous Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi is pregnant with her first child, her rep confirmed in a press statement on Wednesday. Lakshmi suffers from endometriosis and has allegedly struggled for years to conceive.

“Model, author, and Emmy-nominated Padma Lakshmi confirms that she is carrying her first child after years of struggling with endometriosis, a cause for which she has co-founded the Endometriosis Foundation of America,” the Top Chef host’s rep told Us Weekly.

Endometriosis can be a serious medical condition which causes the lining of the uterus to grow in other parts of the body. Endometriosis can also cause infertility and severe pain.

“As a result of her condition, this pregnancy has been referred to by her physician as nothing short of a medical miracle, and due to its delicate nature, we ask/implore the press to respect Ms. Lakshmi’s privacy at this time,” Lakshmi’s rep said.

Padma Lakshmi has not revealed who is the father of the baby. Lakshmi was formerly married for three years to author Salman Rushdie, but split with him in 2007.
