Twilight Author Stephenie Meyer Denies Plagiarism Accusations

Twilight author Stephenie Meyer is denying accusations she stole the plot for her fourth novel Breaking Dawn from another author.

A cease and desist letter sent from author Jordan Scott to Meyer’s publisher claims the best-selling novelist plagiarized aspects of her 2006 fantasy book The Nocturne. According to Scott, Meyer stole specific pivotal scenes from her novel and used strikingly similar dialogue in Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in the mega-hit Twilight series.

A spokesperson for Stephanie Meyer released a statement to the press saying Jordan Scott’s accusations are entirely unfounded. “The claim that Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer somehow infringes on an alleged book by someone named Jordan Scott is completely without merit,” the representative told TMZ.com.

This is not the first time Stephanie Meyer has had to deal with rumors of plagiarism regarding the Twilight series. British tabloid The Sun ran a story earlier this year claiming Meyer’s former college roommate Heidi Stanton had filed a lawsuit against the Twilight author for stealing the idea for the vampire series from a short story she wrote while they were at Brigham Young University together. Production on the second film of the Twilight series, New Moon, was allegedly halted due to the claims.

However, the story was quickly shot down as a hoax by Summit Entertainment, the production company behind the Twilight films.

  1. PLEEEEASE. This teeney-bopper couldnt even act in a twilight film let alone write one of the books. She is just looking for her 15 minutes of fame. It’s ok. If i had only 1/8 of the talent someone i envied had….I’d be jealous too. It’s ok “Love” they have shrinks you can talk to. Twilight is the BOMB!!!

  2. Well, take credit for your own writings that obviously were not a hit and quit trying to steal the fame of someone else, who I might say is quite TALENTED. She’s the BOMB!

  3. She is not claiming to have written breaking dawn, she wrote a book called the nocturne 2 years before breaking dawn was released. If you read the claim where they do a side by side of passages between nocturne and breaking dawn you will see that the plot through out breaking dawn is VERY similar to this girls book. Whether she wrote it as good as meyer wrote BD doesn’t matter the idea and plot seems to have been stolen and that is plagarism.

  4. Please dont get me wrong I LOVE the entire twilight series, and I could care less whether she stole the idea or it is just one big coinkydink but they are very eerily similar for her never even hearing of this girl or her writings.

  5. At first when I was reading the side by side comparison, I was like okay it’s just similar – some where not even that similar….but as I got further and further into reading…boy did it sound alike…….hmmmmmm…..I always was wondering about the “True Blood” series too….didn’t the Sookie books come out before Twilight????

  6. I have read the side by side dialogues from the two books. I dont think they sound anything alike. And anyways, how many different ways can a wedding be or the vows for that note. And as for someone spending time at the beach how could it be any different. And how many times have you read a book and it had he/she brushed his/her lips gently. I thought the two were very different. It did not resemble nothing to each other. Get over it already.

  7. The two books are very similar.. but i just don’t think that Meyer copied off of Scott. I didnt think so at first but towards the end they are very very similar. But i have read hundreds of books that are similar to each other. I think that all authors get ideas from other authors. No one really has original ideas anymore.

  8. Hmmm..edward “Dazzles” humans while Bill “glamours” them. Edward can read everyones mind but bella, while sookie can read the mind of anyone but bills. Sam can shapeshift, just like jacob. Oh, and edward hates blondes, while Bill loves them. it’s obvious, that dream meyer had where she got the idea for twilight must of happened after she watched an episode of true blood. Face the facts. it’s right there in black and white. Meyer stole from true blood.
