We just couldn’t resist sharing this story of an Iowa teenager and her amazing gum wrapper prom dress. Elizabeth Rasmuson of Garner, Iowa apparently decided making prom dresses out of duct tape was too old school. Instead, she’s been collecting blue and white Wrigley’s gum wrappers since August to construct her prom night fashion confection.
While making your prom dress out of gum wrappers might sound like a wacky idea, the end result was actually rather awesome. We’re especially amused that Elizabeth Rasmuson also got her prom date to wear a vest created from gum wrappers as well. She looks rather attractive in her creation, but he looks kind of dorkish, poor guy. Rasmuson added a vinyl top coat to keep the wrappers together and a tool skirt to fluff out the dress.
“I heard about somebody making a dress out of duct tape or something one time so I just was like what’s something cool and I’ve always liked the colors of the [Wrigley’s] ‘Five’ gum,” Rasmuson said, according to KIMT.com.
Now that’s a creative way to save money, go green and look pretty damn good doing it!
