The crew on board an Icelandair flight from Reykjavik to New York City were forced to duct tape a drunk man to his seat after he became violent. The unidentified man was reportedly screaming profanities, spitting on crew members and attempting to harm fellow passengers after consuming a large amount of liquor.

New York resident Andy Ellwood, who allegedly received the photo above from a friend on the flight, said the guy “drank all of his duty-free liquor” and then just went crazy about two hours into the journey. Ellwood said at one point the man was “trying to choke the woman next to him and screaming the plane was going to crash,” according to the New York Post. The man reportedly also tried to grab or choke a male passenger as well, according to the original description posted on Reddit with the photo.

“My friend was on the flight and he sent me the photo because we like to trade travel war stories,” Ellwood told NBC News. He said his friend who took the photo did not want to be identified or speak to the media directly.

Passengers and crew on the Icelandic Air flight eventually managed to restrain the man and tape him down to his seat. They also trapped the man’s hands behind his back, bound his legs and feet together, and taped his mouth closed.

Icelandair spokesman Gudjon Arngrimsson said the man’s threatening behavior forced passengers and crew to restrain him for the safety of other people on the plane. Although he could not verify the photo was authentic, Arngrimsson said it was common for airlines to have tape and plastic handcuffs on board for such incidents.

The unidentified man, who had an Icelandic passport, was taken into police custody after the plane landed at Kennedy Airport in New York but was later released. Despite his aggressive behavior and attack on at least one other passenger, a source told the New York Post he will not be charged with any crime.
