Last night on The X Factor 2012 auditions, viewers enjoyed several great performances, but I personally think it was one of the weakest audition nights so far. I was really looking forward to seeing the appearance of KISS legend Gene Simmons‘ daughter, Sophie Tweed-Simmons. Unfortunately, it was kind of a bizarre experience all around. She kept talking about how she wanted to make it on her own and not be known as “Gene Simmons’ daughter” — and yet she dragged her very famous parents along to her audition?
She also could have tweaked her name a bit so she wasn’t recognized by The X Factor 2012 judges immediately on opening her mouth. But no, she did everything possible, it seemed (at least from the editing) to make sure EVERYONE knew she was Gene Simmons’ daughter. The saddest thing was, after all that build-up, she really wasn’t very good. Frankly, had The X Factor season 2 judges NOT known who she was, I really don’t think she would have gotten through to the next round.
Oh well. Tonight on The X Factor 2012 auditions final round, let’s hope there aren’t any more famous offspring waiting in the wings and we can get on with the business of hearing some seriously fabulous talent. I really love watching this show to see the ‘regular’ Joes and Jills out there who have been dreaming all their lives about being a singer make the cut and freak out from utter joy at having their talent appreciated.

Tonight’s show begins with the continuing saga of 13-year-old Trevor Moran. The energetic videographer passed out at the end of the previous episode. The last we saw of him was the poor kid looking pale and laying on the floor surrounded by medical personnel. Thankfully he was just over excited and dehydrated and recovers with some care and Gatorade.
When he is feeling better, Trevor Moran takes the stage for the first audition of the night. He gives an entertaining rendition of “I’m Sexy and I Know It” by LMFAO that has the judges all grinning. They all like him a lot and the girls are all about how ‘cute’ and ‘adorable’ he is. While he is probably not a future rock star in the making, Trevor is awesomely fun, so I’m glad he’ll get to go through to Boot Camp.
Next up is 16-year-old Owen Stuart who gushes about his girlfriend back home. He gives an okay performance of “Airplanes” by B.O.B. that draws cheers from the crowd but mixed reviews from the the judges. In the end, he gets three yes votes. Britney Spears is the hold out and votes no. He’ll be going to Boot Camp.
Freddie Combs is a minister from Tennessee and he has quite a story! He currently weighs 540 lbs but he used to be up to an insane 920 lbs. He gives a very well received performance of “Wind Beneath My Wings” by Bette Midler, which he dedicates to his wife. The audience is on their feet. The judges all love him and they all give him encouraging words of support. They tell him if he goes on, he has to work even harder to be healthy. They give him four yes votes.
Now we have to endure a crapload of bad auditions, including the Kofoed Sisters, who Simon Cowell says sounds like the time when he sat on a bunch of cats.
Our next real audition comes to us courtesy of 16-year-old Lauren Jauregui from Florida. She performs “If I Aint’ Got You” by Alicia Keys and blows it out of the water. The judges are bowled over by her performance and they can’t even say yes fast enough!
Now on stage is 12-year-old Jordyn Foley performing “Tomorrow” and Simon taunts her for singing a song he hates. Thankfully the other judges are not so mean as Simon. Although I think Jordyn needs a lot of growing to do, the other three judges all give her yes votes and she is through to the next round.
