The X Factor season two premiere is finally here and I can’t wait to watch new X Factor 2012 judges Britney Spears and Demi Lovato in action. Spears and Lovato will be joining The X Factor USA veterans Simon Cowell and L. A. Reid on the judges panel this year and I hear neither one is shy about voicing their opinions about the contestants loud and clear. Join us for our The X Factor 2012 premiere recap and check out the new judges in action as we watch the good, the bad and the totally crazy of The X Factor season 2 auditions.
WARNING: THE X FACTOR 2012 SEASON 2 SPOILERS AHEAD!
This post contains The X Factor 2012 season 2 spoilers from the premiere episode. Please stop reading here if you do not want to know what happened!
For those who have missed Simon Cowell’s biting commentary from American Idol, have no fear. Simon Cowell on The X Factor 2012 season 2 is just as snarky and in your face as you could wish. In fact, he reportedly tells the one of the contestants on The X Factor season 3 premiere that “it sounded like you were dying.”
Simon Cowell, however, is not the only judge with a sharp tongue this season. From The X Factor 2012 spoilers from the auditions, judges Britney Spears and Demi Lovato aren’t afraid to speak their minds either. Spears especially is quite happy to give bad contestants harsh criticism. She told one contestant quite bluntly after a bad performance that she wanted to know “who let you onstage” and tells another one she “felt I was listening to Alvin and the Chipmunks.”
Of course, not all The X Factor 2012 season 3 contestants are content to just let the judges rip them up without giving a little back. So we can look forward to some bitchy and drama-filled moments to enjoy courtesy of some displeased The X Factor season 3 auditions rejects.
Let’s hope among inevitable fails and bad The X Factor season 2 auditions on tonight’s premiere, we’ll also find some seriously talented singers to cheer for.
The show launches tonight in Austin, Texas for the first round of auditions. Thousands have joined the lines to try out for X Factor season 2 and it is crazy! New judge Demi Lovato says it all makes her a bit nervous starting on this new adventure. Fellow judge and show creator Simon Cowell is excited about the new season and promises to be in a better mood this time around (yeah right). Britney Spears says the whole thing is a stressful experience and says she plans to give Simon Cowell a beating. British sensation One Direction opens the show.
The first hopeful up tonight is Paige Tomas and we can only hope there won’t be a lot more like the two nasty girls backstage — Kaci and Kaylee — who say mean things about Paige and her daughter.
21-year-old Paige Tomas has a three-year old daughter and has been trying to make it as a singer but not getting anywhere. She is also in school studying nursing. She performs “I’m Going Down” by Mary J. Blige. When Paige does well in her audition, those snarky girls backstage are not pleased. Good, because they suck.
Judges: Britney Spears says Paige is bright and beautiful; flawless. Demi Lovato says she is totally blown away by her stage presence and says she is a superstar. L. A. Reid says she is a star. Even grumpy Simon Cowell only has good things to say, calling her commercial with a capital C and says it is one of his favorite auditions.
Next up we have 50-year-old Shawn Armenta and you just know this audition is not going to go well. He performs his own creation called “Candy Girl”.
Judges: Simon Cowell says Shawn is a “mouse trying to be an elephant” and it is just wrong. Shawn is upset and says he worked hard for this dream. Demi Lovato tells him a lot of people have worked hard for their dreams but sometimes they just aren’t the right dreams for them. Shawn snaps back that at least he, unlike a certain judge, doesn’t use autotune. Ouch! Brtiney says she is uncomfortable having him on stage and looking at her. Shawn storms off the stage.
This failed audition is followed by a flash through a number of other utter fails. Thankfully, they do include some fun snark from the judges, including a nice bit of zing from Britney Spears.
The next good act is 13-year-old Reed Deming from San Antonio, Texas. Hee performs “It Will Rain” by Bruno Mars. It is okay, but not spectacular and they want him to sing again a capella.
Judges: Simon Cowell likes him, but thinks his vocals need to be better. Demi says she thinks he is totally adorable and he has great stage presence. L. A. Reid says he clearly has talent. Britney Spears also says he is adorable. It looks like Reed is through on the ‘adorable’ factor.
One of the bitchy girls from earlier is now on stage, 22-year-old Kaci Newon. She sings “Fireworks” by Katy Perry and it is not pretty. It is, in fact, quite horrid.
Judges: Simon Cowell tells her it sounds like she was dying and suffering while dying. Enough said. She is out.
Oh my. This audition is already interesting from the minute Quatrelle Dion shows up on stage… in a wedding dress. He is apparently a cake decorator by day and a singer by night. He performs “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga and actually wasn’t so terribly, horribly bad, although he’s no Gaga by a long shot. Still, he’s not a serious contender, just more for entertainment value.
Judges: Britney tells him he was off pitch in places but gave an entertaining performance. Demi says she loves his lipstick and he was fun. Simon Cowell says if he imagined Madonna, Bobby Brown and Dracula having a child it would be him, but he still loves him. L. A. Reid is not so pleased. Everyone but L. A. votes yes though, so Quatrelle is through to the next round.
Let’s just move right through 22-year-old Vincent Thomas, who gives a lame performance of Elton John‘s “Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word”. The judges hated it and that’s enough said.
Now we have a boy band that claims they are not a boy band called Emblem3. They perform an original song named “Sunset Boulevard” and for a boy band (which yes, they are), it isn’t bad. Mostly they are just cute though and I don’t think they are all that special.
Judges: L. A says he doesn’t like them… he loves them! Britney says she loved it as well and their voices were smooth. Demi says they were cute and fun to watch, she was impressed. Simon Cowell says he loves everything about the performance from start to finish.
Vocal coach Don Phillips once did a duet with Britney Spears but he was not ready to go out on his own back then. He is moved that Britney recognizes him. Unfortunately, his rendition of “Hills” does not go very well.
Judges: Simon Cowell says he has to be honest and tell Don he does not have a good singing voice. Britney says she knows he has gone through a lot but he does not have an X Factor voice. The judges vote and he is out. He collapses back stage wailing and weeping. It is disturbing.
Now we have 18-year-old Jennel Garcia singing “Paris Oh La LA” and she is kicking it hard! She may be one of my favorites this season.
Judges: L. A. is totally feeling this girl. Britney says she was not expecting that and it was amazing. Demi says it is cool that she just looks cute, but she’s really on fire and awesome. Simon Cowell calls her a young Pat Benatar and says she is money baby; different and exciting.
The last performer of the evening is 18-year-old Jillian Jensen and she is a superfan of Demi Lovato. She talks about being bullied in school and loves how much Demi has done to campaign against bullying. She gives a stunningly evocative performance and leaves me (and the judges) in tears.
Judges: Demi actually goes up on stage and hugs her while she cries and tells her she is so strong and amazing. L. A. says she took her pain and poured it into the song and she has got it. Britney says she should not cry, her voice is sexy and beautiful. Simon says it was incredible and amazing the pain she brought to the sound. He says not to cry but to be strong. Demi says she broke her heart when she sang. They are all wiping tears away. Jillian is, of course, through to the next round!
